  2. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The Saturday morning Covid vaccination for over 75years olds couldn’t have been more efficient, with 3 surgeries open and a constant stream of patients. My appointment was bang on time, but not rushed and everyone was very pleasant. Well done Summertown Group Practice!

  3. Review titled efficient and friendly service

Rated 4 stars out of 5

    by lorraine foreman-peck - Posted on 02 May 2024

I had a covid booster vaccination on 27th April. I was invited by text . The GP administering the vaccination was obviously very talented as the jab did not hurt at all much to my surprise. This clinic saved me a journey and a wait in a long queue elsewhere so I (and my husband ) were very gratified. The receptionist staff were as always polite , calm and efficient.

  4. Review titled Physio appointment pointless

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 February 2024

Recently sent to this surgery from my own for a physio appointment due to years of constant back pain. Waiting room and reception combined was crowded so no privacy when talking to receptionist. Physio appointment was 10 minutes late despite him being seen wandering around with a mug before appointment time. During appointment I gave him an MRI and pain clinic report following 6 weeks of previous 30 minute physio sessions in 2016 and tried to explain but no idea if I was understood as communication from him was minimal. He poked my back a couple of times and just told me to try lying on a hot water bottle and then indicated for me to leave. No suggestion of exercises or future treatment. I queried this and was grudgingly told he'd send some by email and was shown out. The email contained an attachment of a large number of generic back exercises with no indication of which might help, the accompanying email told me to use a cold pack, not a heat pad as indicated in the very brief appointment. The entire experience was a waste of my time and NHS money. The standard of care was non-existent and dismissive considering the report I gave him indicated a previous bulging disc and crumbling vertebra. I now have to go back to my doctor and ask for something better, wasting more NHS time and money. Appalling service from a run-down surgery.

Dear Patient I am sorry to hear about you experience at Summertown Health Centre, we always strive for excellence and it is disappointing that you feel this was not the case. The First Contact Physio services is provided by our Primary Care Network (PCN) rather than them being a member of the SHC Team. FCP work in a different way from traditional Physios, they; evaluate, diagnose and order tests independently, administer steroid injections, prescribe medication and refer patients accordingly. We will pass your comments on to the Manager of the PCN, but it would be most helpful if you could contact her on Suzanne.algie@nhs.net, supplying your details and the date and time of the appointment so the PCN can investigate further.

  5. Review titled Impossible to access healthcare

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 September 2023

I have managed to have 4 encounters with healthcare professionals in 4 years. The people I have met have been professional and clinically sound. My concern is that it is nearly impossible to get an appointment. I tried via email - autoreply saying that they don't respond to emails or accept booking via email. I tried online - it took some time to work out the login process (and I am literate and have access to a computer), but it said no appointments available. The deeply concerning thing was that instead the online portal offered me the opportunity to purchase various blood tests at other locations. This is a highly unethical, exploitative and potentially harmful practice. I tried via phoning - have spent over 1 hour on hold. I tried by calling into reception - the reception are unable to book appointments more than 2 weeks in advance, and rarely have an appointment available. I tried to use the e-consult service - a computer program - it insisted that I phone 111 and wouldn't allow me to book a GP appointment. The only way I could access the GP appointment was via 111! I had a chronic problem and was very reluctant to call 111 but the call handler at 111 was eventually able to book a phone appointment the next day with the GP. This should not be the only way to access primary healthcare.

  6. Review titled Kind and helpful

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 July 2023

Staff at the surgery were incredibly kind and helpful when I rushed there this morning in a panic, having run out of my medication just as I was about to go abroad for a family wedding. The receptionist was lovely to me and the prescription was sorted in minutes, despite the whole situation being entirely my own fault.

  8. Review titled Professional and supportive Admin Team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Cristiana - Posted on 23 March 2023

I would like to thank the Summertown Group so much for their lovely and professional support, always precious and helpful. Then, I am not a native speaker, but they always put me at ease when speaking over the phone, and the people in charge of replying by email or answering the telephone calls are always very supportive. In particular, today, midday, I was talking with a receptionist/secretary to book a blood test and she was amazing! I have moved to Oxford recently, so sometimes I need to know more about how things work here, but they professional help and patience are unique! I know, the patients usually thank the GPs and nurses because they are in charge of the diagnosis and treatments directly. And this is great, of course. Thanks to them, as well! Yet, I would like to thank all the admin team, receptionists and secretaries, who work really hard to sort many patients-issues out and they all are very kind. A special thanks to you!

  9. Review titled The NHS is still Great

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Simon - Posted on 24 March 2023

Although many tend to criticise the NHS my experiences with it throughout my life (I am 67) have always been no less than superb, and my visit to my GP surgery yesterday confirms that the NHS is still Great! Cut-backs and lack of support do not seem to dampen the basic warm human spirit of NHS staff at all levels - though often they must feel decidedly unappreciated. As I went into my local surgery yesterday I felt the same sensation of calm professionalism that I have always felt from the NHS. Reception was friendly and efficient as always and my Health Reviewer was timelessly reassuring while she asked questions and did my review. When we are ill or hurting or simply keeping ourselves well, it is without a doubt that the NHS still strives to give us the feeling of hope that is possibly the greatest drug. The rigors of the past few years have been the biggest test for us all and NHS workers are only human too! Everyone should cheer the NHS on as our biggest source of hope. Thank You Everyone Simon

  10. Review titled Positive and Helpful Attitude

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Rosalina M - Posted on 20 March 2023

I like the positive atmosphere in this practice, they clearly took great care for putting bright, colourful and in some way cheerful posters! It is a clean Health Centre, everything is done in efficient and professional manner. The receptionist is very helpful, friendly and gives a caring attitude towards patients and medical staff. My child has been seeing immediately and we are both satisfied with service. Thank you!
