Review titled Helpful assistance
Rated 4 stars out of 5

We found the previous form filling at this surgery so are pleased they have moved back to traditional phone triage, with e consult where appropriate. They were really supportive this week, reviewing photos of a skin condition in good time, and making an appointment available for my son.

New website to navigate since I last needed to use it about a month ago. Access does not get any easier for patients. Spent a fair bit of time getting my request sent. Quick response though with a reply.

We are still working with the web site provider to improve the ease of use but we do need to know which sections are difficult. Review titled Excellent Service

Fortunately I don`t have cause to contact the surgery on a frequent basis. However, during the last month I needed to on two separate occasions and each time received a timely response and appropriate advice delivered in a caring, professional and efficient manner. Much appreciated.

Review titled Great practice

I would highly recommend Strawberry Hill Medical Centre. I have had to use the practice numerous times in June for various health reasons within my family (for me and my 8 month old daughter) and on each occasion we have been seen swiftly and all the staff -on the phone, on reception and the nurses and doctors have all been very friendly and helpful ensuring we are seen when needed and dealing with each health issue promptly and fully. We couldn't ask for better care when we have needed and it is very reassuring knowing this is the case and the helpful practice is there if we need.

Review titled Fast Forward

I feel extremely rushed at the appointment. My last appointment was over the phone, with 1h30min delay. I had several topics to discuss and made it clear from the start. After each topic the doctor was suggesting to end the call with a 'hope you have a nice day' and me trying to say that I still have topics to discuss. The whole conversation was 4 min and 30s and it felt extremely uncomfortable feeling rushed to close the call after the first minute and after every topic. Topics I has were related to migraines, 3rd reminder for ophthalmology appointment, skin rash on the face that lasted more than 1 month and topic related to my toddle's who might have oral thrush.

Dear Anonymous, I am sorry you felt rushed and all your issues were not covered. Appointments are for one condition only. Please make it clear to the receptionist that you have multiple issues and therefore need a double length appointment to discuss more than one condition. The receptionist will list these so the GP will be expecting a variety of issues. You will need a separate appointment for your toddler, but this can often be the appointment next to yours so can be continuous. The receptionist should have informed you that your phone appointment is within 2 hours either side of the booked time, or that it will be a morning call or an afternoon call. If you let me know your name I can listen to any calls between you and a receptionist so I can see if they are not making this clear enough. Please make another appointment if you still have outstanding issues. Any appointments that are booked as urgent are very short appointments for that very urgent issue (ie antibiotics for chest infection). Ongoing issues and non urgent issues need a pre-booked appointment rather than an on-the -same-day appointment. Without knowing who you are, I am unable to see whether you had a routine phone call or an urgent phone call. Please call again to book another appointment if still required. The phone lines are much quieter between 4.30-6.30 pm

Review titled Appalling Experience

I regret to inform you of the utterly disappointing and frustrating experience I recently endured at the Strawberry Medical Hill Surgery Practice. My interactions with this establishment left me deeply dissatisfied and disheartened, prompting me to share my grievances with the hope of prompting much-needed improvements. First and foremost, the insistence on speaking to reception for appointments is not only archaic but also incredibly inconvenient and inflexible. Despite numerous attempts to book appointments, I was met with rough, rude, and dismissive behavior from the reception staff. Their zero-tolerance policy seems to apply exclusively to patients, as they showed zero regard for my work schedule or the urgency of my medical needs. Instead of offering compassionate care and support, the receptionists seemed more interested in swiftly redirecting patients to private or third-party services without taking the time to address their concerns or provide adequate assistance. This blatant disregard for patient well-being is nothing short of appalling and reflects poorly on the professionalism and ethics of the practice. Furthermore, the lack of accessibility to doctors without first navigating through the reception staff is unacceptable. The cumbersome process of booking appointments over the phone, coupled with the unavailability of doctors' schedules, only adds to the frustration and inefficiency of the experience. On average, I was forced to wait for over 40 minutes on hold, only to be met with curt and abrasive communication upon finally speaking with a staff member. It is my sincere belief that the current system of relying on receptionists to book appointments serves as a significant barrier to quality healthcare access. I strongly urge the management of Strawberry Medical Hill Surgery Practice to reconsider their approach and implement online appointment booking systems to streamline the process and empower patients to reach doctors directly. In conclusion, I implore the practice to prioritize patient needs and professionalism by addressing the shortcomings highlighted in this review. Failure to do so not only compromises patient care but also tarnishes the reputation of the practice as a whole.

Review titled Degraded service

Hi, In the last year, we had to book a few visits to this surgery for various problems. 1. Ear infections for myself and little one... badly misdiagnosed. We have been advised that the little one can fly just to find out that on landing at the destination our little one lost his hearing... Proper antibiotics prescribed from abroad sorted the problem in 2 days. And I had to go through two courses of antibiotics because the first one was the milder and cheaper one. 2. Our little one has been prescribed, cheap or mild antibiotics over winter for a lung infection... surprise ... after 2 weeks we had to go back to the GP and complain the wet cough had not got away but got worse and they prescribed a mild dose of antibiotics and offered another course of antibiotics stronger than brought the little one on track. The funny thing was that only on the second visit with the same issue they did decide to do a cough swab. 3. My Wife had a throat infection and we went through the same shambles with 2 courses of antibiotics.... even though we did ask for a cough swab they only decided to do it on the second visit after they offered a stronger antibiotic medicine. 4. Another visit with the little one ... prescribed some cream for a skin rash ... we did complain this issue had been triggered for years by an allergen.. we had been laughed in the face and told that NHS has no money for allergen testing and we should go private if we are not happy with their treatment!!! After going back and forth about the problem they told us they could refer us for testing but the waiting list is 2 years?! 2 minutes later a proper GP got into the cabinet to tell us they could refer us to a dermatologist.... still waiting for that referral in the mailbox. Getting through to someone on the phone is close to impossible most of the time. So we have to jump in the car to make appointments at the reception. In the last few months, we have noticed the surgery started to bring in GP associates ... which probably translates into students or apprentices :) we had a few visits with two of them and they look worryingly with little experience in practicing general medicine. Yet again they are strongly advised to make sure they let you know that NHS has no money for any kind of testing if you ask them to prove that the antibiotics they prescribe do kill the bacteria. My personal opinion is that at this surgery most of the practitioners they do practice a Trial-and-error approach to the medicine... which is worrying. I think next time when this surgery GPs will prescribe any antibiotics that were not tested beforehand to see if it does cover that bacterial infection I should give them the invoice for the prescription charge on the first course of antibiotics. It should be fair. Well, who am I to complain... just an NI taxpayer who is always taxed... month by month.

Dear Patient, I am sorry your experience was not of the standard you expected. In order for me to look into this, please contact me via the website https://www.strawberryhillmedicalcentre.co.uk/form-contact-us. I can then investigate this further. The standard protocol for antibiotics is to start with the most usual one for the presenting condition, then review and order tests if this is not effective. This is the quickest way for treatment to commence as the test/swabs have to be sent off for analysis and the results can take a few days to get back to us. Our phonelines are much quieter between 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm so you may prefer to try calling us then. Regards Louisa Practice Manager

Review titled Great Experience

I experienced the best care for my daughter si on this day. I have brought in my daughter for same cough 2weeks prior but wasn’t happy with the treatment. On this day, saw dr ai, he was very efficient. My daughter had cough, wheezing, tachycardic and running temperature. The doctor took his time to examine her, took us to another room, nebulised her firstly, no must changes, kept going and coming to check on us. Nebulised second time, a little change and he decided to send us to A&E for more treatment which was a good call as my daughter was admitted 5days in the hospital. This dr by himself, arranged an ambulance and gave us letter to take to the hospital. I’m very grateful for his prompt response. Also saw same dr ai 15/03/2024, after my daughter started having same symptoms, he was very pleasant, still did a good examination and sent us for chest xray and different antibiotic. Very efficient indeed.

Review titled Poor experience
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I’ve always experienced great service but my recent visit was incredibly disappointing. I felt that the GP did not believe my symptoms from the get go. I had a reoccurrence of a previous problem for which I was scanned and given results for however this GP could not find the scan and accused me of lying about having it in the consultation. I left feeling unheard and like it was a waste of an appointment, as no medication or advice was offered. On viewing my consultation notes, the GP has written very minimal notes- most of it covers how they could not find my previous scan and that the request was never done- I had the scan and saw the previous GP request via ICE whilst in the consultation!! Many symptoms were omitted from the consultation notes and stated that safety netting was done when it wasn’t! The notes are incredibly condescending. As someone who works at another GP surgery I am so appalled in how this was handled, I have never felt so upset leaving a consultation. I’m lucky that this is the first poor experience I have had, but it has left me incredibly disappointed and in pain!
