  1. Review titled Unable to see a GP

Rated 1 star out of 5

by James Lopez - Posted on 21 July 2023

I attended hospital as an outpatient for 2 weeks. They recommend that I see a GP face to face. Medication was not prescribed and symptoms are returning. I feel they are unwilling to listen. Very disappointing service and unprofessional.

  2. Review titled Incredible Doctor!!

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 July 2023

I have generally had good GP experiences, however, today I had one of the most comprehensive and genuinely patient-forward follow-up calls from a doctor that I have had in years. It’s a shame that I cannot name this person, but anybody who has had the pleasure of their consultation knows exactly who I mean! Throughout my call I felt they were present and actively listened to my concerns. Their feedback and follow up recommendations made me feel like my health and wellness was their #1 priority. I wish there were more doctors like this who gave this level of attention and care about their parents well-being. Amazing!!!

Thank you for the positive feedback on your experience at the surgery, it's a shame you couldn't remember the doctor's name so I could pass on your remarks. By posting your name instead of Anonymous I would have been able to identify the GP who saw you, perhaps if you have feedback in the future you could bear this in mind. Once again thanks, Practice Manager

  3. Review titled Incompetent

Rated 1 star out of 5

You have receptionists who look like they are ill themselves and in over they heads. They are parroting everything they say wether you want an appointment or any other help its always go online to fill a form, what a ridiculous concept. You then have to wait a long time to get the appointment even though they say in 48 hours. You call for retults and are booked 3 or 4 weeks away. why they continue to take on more patients when they can not deal with or faclitate current patients is a shambles. When you eventually get to speak to a gp they sound abrupt and brusque. The practice manager seems decent enough and at times does help you get the appointment you need but he really needs to see what kind of people work for him. You have a supervisor who is either always on her phone or sitting around with friends eating and laughing whilst patients suffer and continue getting ill. This place really ought to be shut down least for being negligentt to patients. Nhs is gone down the drain because you have greedy surgery like this taking on more patients but not giving enough appointments to the patient. Bring back the good old days where you call and book appointment instead of going online or wasting our time on the phone asking questions about symptoms and then calling us 4 days later.

Thank you for your feedback. On line appointment application has become the national way of booking appointments and the quickest anaves having to wait for a receptionist to be free to answer your call. Once you submit your application your request will be triaged and you will receive a response in 48 hours,(not necessarily an appointment) that maybe a text message to say you will get a call from the GP or you may get a call from reception to book an appointment face to face with a clinician. It all depends on the urgency of the problem which determins the priority of appointments. If you have difficulty using the on line process you can phone reception or come to the surgery an a receptionist will complete the appointment application for you. Often patients believe their blood results are urgent and should be notified immediately which is not the case, when your results come to the surgery they are looked at by a GP straight away, if they are deemed urgent you will be booked an appointment with a GP in 1/2 days to discuss your results, if however they are not deemed to be urgent a task is sent from the GP to reception to book you a routine appointment which may be in 3 weeks time. Last year we offered 70,853 appointments of which 38,957 were with a GP, which is far higher than the national requirement and we do not get paid additional funding when we exceed that requirement, we also handled 143,879 telephone calls an average of 11,989 per month, the average waiting time in the queue was under 6 minutes which is exceptional for any company let alone a GP surgery. Unfortunately you have posted this feedback as anonymously, however if you call the surgery and identify yourself and ask for the Practice Manager we can discuss the matter further in a meeting.

  4. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I'd be having some eye issues that wouldn't clear up, so I hoped to see the GP. Inputted my details through the online consultation thing and then got a text on the Monday informing me that minor eye conditions can be dealt with at certain opticians. Got booked in at Specsavers on the High street for the Friday and seen swiftly, with a reassuring course of care, and all without a charge. Can't ask for much more in the current circumstances. Thanks!

Thank you for your comments we are recommending patients to the pharmacy or opticians as an alternative to being treated at the surgery which can speed up the appointment waiting times and on many occasions the best place to be seen. Practice Manager

  5. Review titled Asthma Reviews Feedback

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 June 2023

At the request of the practice I recently completed on an online asthma control test, scoring 25/25 which show that my asthma is well controlled (within the last 4 weeks). I was asked to make a face-to-face appointment for an annual asthma review where I was asked the same questions that I was answered in the online questionnaire. I asked if the review could have been completed as a telephone appointment, the answer was yes as I have my own peak flow meter. Some feedback: - send patients a text confirmation of their appointments - offer patients telephone appointments where possible - I prefer the plan sent as an SMS attachment. Don't print the plan unless this is what the patient prefers. Thank you

  6. Review titled Elder stereotyping

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 May 2023

I requested a health check and saw a health care assistant or practice nurse. (She didn't introduce herself.) Her first shouted question was 'do you know why you are here today?' , assuming I was both deaf and senile. Her questions and comments throughout were patronising and stereotyping. I am 79 but inependent, fit, active and mentally sound as are many people my age. I challenged her approach but she didn't appear capable of modifying it. I was shocked and angry to be treated like this by my GP practice, where I have only had positive experiences since joining it in 2001. I hate to think that less confident people might have been much more damaged by the experience. Urgent retraining is required if this is the general approach being used.

Thank you for your comments and I have spoken to the two HCAs that saw you. They apologise for the way they may have come across but assured me they were not trying to patronise you. One of the HCAs has been here for 18 years and gets fantastic feedback from all the patients so I am a bit surprised that you were offended by her. We have discussed your case at a clinical meeting for relection and learning points. Practice Manager

  9. Review titled Feel good practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Angela Keatley - Posted on 11 May 2023

I love St James practice. From the receptionist to nurses, the blood tests and of course the doctors. Like the awesome doc I seen this morning. It was only meant to be a phone appointment but he asked me if I could come to the surgery to meet face to face. He was wonderful, went through all my history and showed so much concern and he listened to me. Feel I'm moving forward with my medical needs and I'm truly grateful for the care I was shown. Wish I'd made a note of his name, but Tank you all....
