  1. Review titled No available appointments

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 August 2024

There are no appointments available at this clinic, I'm trying to book an appointment for the last week, they don't even answer the phone, all I can do is go on the AskFirst app, go through all the symptoms, just to tell me that there are no available appointments at all. I keep paying for the NHS, but when I have a health problem, I have to pay again at private practices. NHS is just a bad joke!

Dear Patient We are sorry you have struggled to access an appointment. I hope I can explain some of the issues facing primary care and how our appointment system works and how our triage system is designed to ensure the right appointments are allocated effectively to make the most of our valuable resources. Every morning, one of our GPs is based alongside our patient services team (PST), ensuring the correct care is provided and that appointments are made efficiently. A recent Demand V Capacity Analysis showed that for every appointment available, at least 7 to 8 patients are seeking it. We recognised that our appointment availability was completely booked up by 8.30am most days, and this was not a good use of our resources. Since the introduction of the morning GP Navigator, our appointment availability is much better and the right patients are being given the right appointments to meet their needs. However once the allocation of routine appointments have been filled, patients are asked to call back the next day when the next batch are released. NHS111 is always available to help if you do need to access advice. Once you have been triaged by NHS111, where clinically appropriate, they have capacity to book patients into services like out of hour GPs and Minor Illness Units which relieves the pressure. They also have access to a small number of urgent slots at the practice if they needed and provide us with triage notes so our GPs can assess and allocate the most suitable appointment, based on our capacity. We know it is not a perfect system and we are always trying to find the right balance to avoid patients going round in circles. The ask-First App appointments get released every morning at 6am which can help avoid the phone rush at 8am. We are working as hard as we can with the resources we have Poplar Grove Practice

  2. Review titled Great Practice

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Thank you to the staff at Poplar Grove for the care and help you continue to give me and my husband. I had a query regarding a procedure I am due to have and received a response from the surgery very quickly putting my mind at ease. Despite working in challenging times, we have found staff here to be polite and helpful. Although we only use your services when we absolutely have to, we have always been offered help and sound advice in regards to any health issues and in my husband’s case, on going condition. We have never felt let down and having moved from a surgery where we did not receive this level of care, class ourselves as lucky to be patients of Poplar Grove Aylesbury. Thank you to you all.

  3. Review titled Nurses here are excellent

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Daryl - Posted on 05 June 2024

I felt compelled to write this review after my appointment this morning with one of the nurses. I have never felt so relaxed during a blood test. She effortlessly kept me calm and engaged in conversation while efficiently collecting multiple blood samples. Nurse (you cannot use names here which is silly) is truly an asset to the team and provided a breath of fresh air in what seemed like a chaotic and stressed reception area. Walking into her room felt like stepping into a calm oasis. Appointments like these can often be accompanied by angst, anxiety, and a sense of obligation, but I genuinely enjoyed my time with the nurse and could have continued talking to her all morning. The entire nurse team at the practice has always been an excellent group of care providers. As someone who unfortunately has to see them more than I would like at the age of 33, it makes my condition more manageable knowing that I have such a fantastic team looking after my care.

  5. Review titled Excellent Customer Service

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Nick Giles - Posted on 22 April 2024

Trying to be pro-active with my health care I arranged a blood test at Stoke Mandeville hospital last week to ensure that a disease I have had in the past has not re-occurred. There are no symptoms only a blood test will do.I thought it a waste of my GP's time to make an appointment just to make a referral. SM declined to do the test- a referral ( letter or otherwise) is required ( hidden in the small print). So I mailed Poplar Grove thinking an appointment would be required. No- I had a response within a couple of hours. The GP concerned ( I think the rules prevent me naming her) had arranged a referral straight away and explained what would happen when the result came through. Excellent service from the GP at Poplar Grove and I did not waste their time with an unnecessary appointment. Thank you Poplar Grove !

  6. Review titled Such helpful people !

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Mark F - Posted on 16 April 2024

People are quick to criticise, slow to praise, way too often. This Surgery fight through the issues of sickness and staff shortages on a daily basis, yet manage to still provide a very professional service. Today we had to see a lady Dr, and she was brilliant. Kind, knowledgeable and dedicated to helping her patients. I happen to know they dealt with 800 calls alone today ! And yet still she was smiling, polite and very helpful. Thank you, you’ve put myself and my partners minds at rest.

  8. Review titled Really helpful member of staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 March 2024

I wanted to say a huge thank you to the lady I spoke with on the phone yesterday morning - she helped me get a prescription approved and redirected within the same day. I appreciate how busy and stressed you all must be and she even took the time to leave me a voicemail to let me know when it was all done. This is a really good service and she is clearly very diligent in her work.

  9. Review titled How do you get an appointment??

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Patricia Ribbens - Posted on 13 February 2024

I have tried to help my son get an appointment, as he can’t find a way to get a doctors phone call. The reception staff say it has to be arranged on the day and a pre booked call with a gp is not possible. This involves waiting for very long periods in a queue, with people who really need to be seen on same the day. I have never got through by phone, the result is always the same, I’m cut off or a message saying all appointments for today are taken.

  10. Review titled I've had good treatment at this practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Janet Smith - Posted on 23 February 2024

I became ill in October 2023 and after seeking help using the 111 route I eventually ended getting seen in accident and emergency. As symptoms continued I made an appointment with the practice. I've had several visits with various, clinicians and doctors as well as telephone appointments, as they've tried to resolve my problems. I've had several sets of blood tests at the practice by very gentle nursing staff and been referred to hospital clinics. I have to say they have listen to me and been most helpful in getting to the cause of my symptoms. All the members of staff have been pleasant, friendly and caring. I have lived in this area for 6 years and have luckily not needed to use the GP practice very often and have been treated very well by when I have needed them. I'm always impressed by the efficiency of their vaccination clinics . This is a lovely practice.
