  1. Review titled Pharmacy needs a complete overhaul

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 October 2022

I ordered my prescription giving the requested 5 working days notice (6 in fact) only to be told they are running behind and it wasn't ready. I either had the option of sitting and waiting while they put it up for me, or call back between opening hours. Guess what, their 'temporary' opening hours are now 8-5.30 - which just happens to coincide with a lot of office hours, so when am I supposed to collect my prescription? Add to that they are closed on Wednesday for an hour for staff training and now a message has come through saying don't bother to go on 19th or 26th Oct as they are closed all day. I thought a Dr's surgery was designed to help patients, not that the patients should have to fit their illness and prescription collection around the opening times of the pharmacy.

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you have experienced difficulties with getting your medication from our Dispensary and would like to apologise for any distress this has caused. Our normal service is to have medication ready for patients within 5 working days of them requesting it and we often have the medication ready before the 5 days are up. However we are currently moving to a new IT system in the Dispensary with improved functionality and which we hope will result in some enhanced services for patients such as a comprehensive electronic prescription service. The introduction of the new system combined with particularly high demand from patients for medication has meant that we are experiencing some delays in the Dispensary. We are putting measures in place to rectify this including staff working overtime and on Saturdays and we hope that our normal service will be resumed within the next 2 weeks. The Dispensary is closed for picking up medication on Wed 19 and Wed 26 October to facilitate the new IT system and ensure that the staff can focus on preparing patient's medication on these days to help with catching up. This is a step we have not taken lightly and we had hoped that by notifying patients about this in advance it would allow them to make arrangements to pick up medication on another day. We are working hard to help our patients and we have patient needs at the forefront of all that we do. I am sorry that it is not coming across this way to you and that you feel we have let you down. If you would like to speak to me to discuss this further or to hear more about what we are doing to improve services for patients I would be happy to meet with you at a convenient time for you to discuss your concerns and try to explain what we are doing to address them. Best wishes Jackie Evans Practice Manager

  2. Review titled House visits

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Is it normal practice for your GP’s to abandon a house call because they cannot find a house and then return to the surgery without ringing the patient to ask where on the estate you live. There are twenty five houses on my estate all clearly numbered. All he had to do was ring me. He then asked the COPD nurse to ring me instead and she said “Sorry I can’t help you” The GP then rang me and said he couldn’t find my house and he got wet because it was raining so he returned to the surgery. I had to ring 111 and the paramedics said I need more antibiotics and steroids but as it is the weekend I have now got to wait until Monday to get them. The paramedics found my house immediately and were appalled at the service I received from your surgery.

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry to read your comments and would like to apologise for any distress that has been caused to you. It is most unusual for one of our doctors not to complete a home visit. As you have not given any details regarding your name or the GP who failed to visit I cannot identify which doctor this was but I will speak to all of the doctors here at the surgery to share this experience and discuss how we can avoid something like this happening again. Please accept my sincere apologies. Jackie Evans Practice Manager
