    I have been struggling to get bp under control but my doctor has seen me every 2 weeks, adjusting medication until it is where it should be. All whilst maintaining a sense of humour and treating me like someone with agency over my outcomes.

    Went in to make appointment, offered phone appointment within 3 hours, needed antibiotics - collected from usual pharmacy within 6 hours of initial contact

    Whilst on the telephone was asked to wait while another call was answered, then the person I was speaking to was also trying to deal with a small child whilst trying to conduct a review of my medication.

    The person that was spoken to was willing to listen and understood the problem. With a short discussion the problem was sorted. Would use the system again with out any hesitation.

    Annual review was carried out over the phone which is fine. However I was surprised it was a pharmacist I was speaking to rather than a doctor or nurse. Whilst they have good knowledge of the medication I am taking, I am not sure how much they knew about my conditions. I have had much more in depth discussions about my asthma for example than I did this time. I was advised to have my blood pressure taken for one medication, which was expected, but there were no questions about my weight, lifestyle, and how I am generally. Whilst I am feeling OK at the moment, I feel some people will only talk about difficulties if they are asked specific questions. For example in the past I have thought my asthma was managed OK, but when the nurse asked certain questions we realised I needed to change what I was doing. I do agree the pharmacist does a valuable job and can definitely help people if they have a query about medication, but I think for an annual review we should speak to a doctor or nurse, as care is sometimes about more than just the tablets you take. One final point, at the beginning of the conversation, I was asked the reason for the call, as the pharmacist did not know it was an annual review. She obviously knew nothing about me before calling, as she did not know what medication / conditions we were going to discuss, and she was not aware I had had blood tests a week before, ready for this appointment. Whilst she was lovely I finished the call feeling it was a waste of time.
