Review titled Doesn't care
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Rebecca - Posted on 09 September 2024
After having issues before I was told by the practice manager to only see one doctor but it seems that is not possible as the doctors ignore your request and book you in with anyone. I received a strike for arguing this. The practice manager also said if there's any issues contact her, I have tried email, calling, and online from to get hold of her but 3 weeks later not heard anything, no wonder my anxiety goes through the roof when having to contact NHS services. Just had to try and make an appointment now I'm shaking due to anxiety

Dear Rebecca I am sorry to hear you have been feeling anxious about contacting the practice. I contacted you today and we discussed ways the practice can help you in the future. I note you have an appointment with your normal GP shortly and this GP will give an education talk at the next practice meeting (anonymously) as I advised. Kind regards Carrie McSpadden Practice Manager

Review titled Clinical and non-clinical staff all very good
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 June 2024
I've been with North Chelmsford for several years now and all the staff are excellent dealing with several health issues I have had. We now have to use the Triage website when contacting them, which makes the process almost unbearable. It may work for clinical issues but occasionally you need to speak with someone non-clinical to explain a situation and it really does not work under those circumstances. There is no 'can someone give me a quick call ...' option so you end up having extended text message exchanges.

Dear Patient Thank you for your recent review and kind words about the clinical and non-clinical teams. I will share this with the team and I am sure they will be very happy to hear your comments. I am sorry you have found it difficult to contact the Admin Team. When we introduced Patient Triage, we also switched to all admin queries going through the same portal. This allows our Admin Team to concentrate on their work, which is complex. I note you mention that yours was a very quick query, but other patients often have very complex and time consuming queries which can take much longer to deal with. I believe several other local surgeries have also adopted this approach. I do however understand your frustration at not being able to ring and speak to the team and I will discuss this in our next senior managers' meeting to see if need to make any changes. Thank you again for your comments. Kind regards Carrie McSpadden, Practice Manager

Review titled Excellent Service - could use more Dr's
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I am very impressed with the service offered by the surgery, we have been with them since 2018, and we have never struggled to get an appointment. I particularly like the new online form service offered. They have been amazing with both my young children, often going out of their way to offer same day appointments even if they don't fall ill until the afternoon. I have also never had an issue getting an appointment for myself or my husband. The surgery is clean, and well looked after. My only issues have been with the use of staff who are not Dr's (such as nurses/Health care assistants with prescribing powers) they really don't see to know as much as the GP's. But I would imagine that is more of an issue in recruitment country wide, than the surgery's fault. And also equipment that isn't fit for purpose - all rooms in my opinion should have accurate thermometers (once a Dr got 4 different reading of my sons temp which were very different to each other) and paediatric size pulse monitors - the adult ones do not fit small fingers.

Dear Patient Thank you for your comments about our team, processes and practice. I will share this with the team who will be delighted. Thank you also for your feedback. In regards to the nurses with prescribing - it is only our Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) and Paramedic that can prescribe (our Practice Nurses and health care assistants do not do this). The ANP and Paramedic have strict criteria for the type of issues they deal with, which frees up the doctors to see patients for more complex issues. I confirm they are very highly trained with years of experience, but would not have the knowledge that GPs have and have to work within their own scope of practice. As part of 'modern general practice' and with the introduction of Primary Care Networks some years ago, we now have a much wider multi-disciplinary team and the GP Partners who manage our triage process, will always fit you in with the most appropriate clinician. Thank you also for the feedback about thermometers not being accurate, I will look into this straight away and remind our clinicians to change the batteries regularly. Most of the equipment is new so they shouldn't be faulty. Unfortunately, we do not have the funds to have a paediatric oximeter in all the rooms; we were given two by the local commissioning board and clinicians can come and get one of these from our central store should they need one. I will remind all of our clinicians about this equipment again. Many thanks for bringing these last two issues to my attention and thank you once again for your comments about the practice. We are very pleased that you are enjoying our triage system and that we have been able to give appointments at the last minute. Kind regards Carrie McSpadden, Practice Manager

Review titled Great Surgery
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Chunkie - Posted on 16 May 2024
I have been acutely ill twice in recent weeks and both times was quickly offered a face to face appt with a clinician after filling out the online triage form. The first time I was quickly referred to Broomfield hospital for further treatment and the second time I was given time and reassurance by the clinician. Reception staff are friendly and all the clinicians I've seen have given time and reassurance. The new triage system has worked well for me and I am very happy with the service provided.

Review titled Not fit for purpose

I contacted the gp on18th April because my child had the Hpv vaccination at school on the 16th and had 5 nosebleeds on the 17th. He never has them so I was concerned. I spoke to 111 that evening and they said to contact gp the following morning which I did. I received a text saying they've never heard of this happening and its not uncommon for children to have nosebleeds. My child never has nosebleeds and it wasn't unreasonable to be concerned. If I can't trust the NHS to help if things go wrong, I will definitely have to rethink further vaccinations. Literally no patient service at all, only text replies and my child wasn't even checked over. Terrible service!!!

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that your child was suffering nosebleeds and I do hope they are better now. All requests for appointments are clinically triaged by one of our GP partners. Outcomes can be giving advice, signposting to the pharmacy or another service, issuing prescriptions, or, if clinically necessary, an appointment will be offered either on the telephone or face to face. In this situation, it appears the GP did not think it was necessary to see your child and communicated this to you via text. If you could email the practice at mseicb-me.nchc@nhs.net with your child's name and the details as per your above review, I can look into this for you and review the decision with the doctor who triaged your request. Please mark your email for my attention. Kind regards Carrie McSpadden Practice Manager

Review titled Great personal service

As I am not permitted to name individuals, the Diabetes nurse at this practice is amazing. Personal service, genuinely invested in improving patients lives, as she has mine. The NHS may have some faults, she is the exemplar that rectifies them. Pls bring to her attention.

Felt that should day on site why not avail and why out of office on. Such a shame as perfect till now and have been bragging as to how good its been

Dear Patient Thank you for your review. I am glad to hear you have previously had a very good experience with the surgery but sorry to hear you experienced problems on Thursday when trying to submit a patient triage form. On Thursday, we closed patient triage at 11am in preparation for the surgery shutting at 12noon. Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB) arrange for training once a month from 12-18:30. This applies to all surgeries in Mid and South Essex. Our shutdown sessions are listed in the practice and on our website. We also added this as a note on the patient triage system welcome page and on our out of hours message to advise that the practice would open again at 18:30. During flu season, we try and utilise some of the shutdown afternoons for flu clinics as it means we can get many done in one afternoon. The clinics were run by our nursing staff. Our other clinicians, including GPs, attended the training organised by Mid and South Essex ICB. I am sorry once again that you experienced difficulties on this day. I do hope you have been able to submit a patient triage form since Thursday and have had a response. If I can help any further, please email the practice at mseicb-me.nchc@nhs.net for my attention with your full details. Kind regards Carrie McSpadden Practice Manager

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry to hear that you had a poor experience when speaking to a clinician about an autism referral. This is not how our clinicians would normally act towards a patient and I would like to investigate this further. Please can email our practice email address for my attention with your name and date of birth and I will investigate - mseicb-me.nchc@nhs.net. Thank you. Review titled Terrible Service

The person on the other end of the phone was very unhelpful and did not help at all. I was waiting for a call in the morning, in which I had been told earlier on in the day I would receive a call in the morning. When I called again I was told I had to wait until 8 pm. Would not help or find a suitable alternative. I asked for a manager to call me back and this didnt happen. This is not the first time I have received no help from members of staff.
