Review titled Poor practice

My review keeps getting removed why ? A few weeks ago I went to the opticians for an eye test they told me they were writing to my doctor for them to refer me to see an ophthalmologist , I received a letter to book an appointment on line but I did not have a choice the location my doctors had put down was Durham I phoned the help line who told me the gp needs to change my location on line so I get a choice of hospitals , I phoned my gp who basically were not interested they are expecting me to travel 30 miles by train then taxi as I don’t drive on my own for a 30min appointment the whole round trip will be 60miles to bishop Auckland hosp which I have never been too when we have numerous hospitals closer , when you don’t drive and have never been to bishop Auckland I’m not prepared to travel that distance 60 miles would they do that themselves .. no they wouldn’t I’ve written to the complaints board regarding this matter who on earth travels 60 mile for a routine appointment , it’s something I’m not prepared to do , I wouldn’t have a clue where I was going at the end of the day the gp surgery have a duty of care to provide for patients to me that’s absurd to expect a lone female to travel that distance , this surgery used to be a great surgery but there lack of concern for patients is terrible it’s poor practice , you never get to see doctors you get a 5min call end of as soon as I get chance I’m changing doctors ,

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. We would like to reassure you that we do not have the ability to remove reviews and would direct you to the national team if you are experiencing problems. We cannot discuss clinical information online and we also note your review is anonymous. We always work hard to provide our patients with a service, and we welcome feedback both positive and negative. It may be helpful for you to contact the secretary at the surgery to discuss the problem you are experiencing, and we will do our best to resolve it for you. Thank you again for submitting your feedback.

Thank you for your feedback, we do realise that many patients try to call the practice at 8.00am and we have updated our telephony and allocated additional staff to answer the telephones to try and ease access for our patients. Our system offers a "call back" service and automatically calls back the patient. Our patients find this useful instead of having to repeatedly call the surgery during busy periods. We also offer eConsultations via our website www.newlandsmedical.org.uk these are an electronic consultation. We also offer pre bookable appointments for non-urgent consultations. We do not routinely ask patients to ring back the following day and this shall be raised at our admin team meeting. We do hope this helps alleviate any future problems trying to contact the surgery in the future. Again, thank you for taking the time to feedback your concerns. Kind Regards Newlands Medical Centre

Review titled So sad

I have been with this practice since I was born. Used to be superb but now alas. My latest attempt to speak to a doctor was met by the Great Wall of reception why are they so intrusive when I refused the physio saying I needed to speak to a doctor the receptionist was not happy and has put in my notes refused help. Clearly box ticking he then gave me an appointment for 3 days away at the one life. I ha ring at 8am. So how do you actually see a doctor at yr practice. This also happened to my father and sadly we had to change his doctor to get him the help he needed So sad to see such a great practice appear to fall of the cliff So to speak

We are sorry that your expectation could not be met when you contacted the Practice and thank you for providing feedback. We would like to reassure you that our admin team ask questions regarding a patient's condition to enable the patient to be booked in with the most appropriate member of our team. New roles have been introduced to our team and they include First Contact Practitioner who can request XRays, Scans and is the first contact for joint and limb conditions. As the demand for services from GP practice increase the new roles of FCP, Dietician, Mental Health Practitioners, Social Prescribers have been introduced to enhance access. We also have extended access, which is an extension of our GP service, this is not an out of hours service or an emergency service but an extension of our services which are available every evening and weekends. We do offer pre-bookable appointments for GPs at our practice; however, these are booked very quickly by our patients, we offer same day appointments and a mixture of telephone and face to face appointments. You can also submit an eConsult via our website, please refer to our website for further information www. newlandsmedical.org.uk Feedback on our service is important to us and we have a patient focus group which meet quarterly, you can sign up to our patient focus group via our website. We also use our complaints system to and would encourage patients to use this should you be unhappy with the service we provide. Many Thanks Newlands Medical Centre

Thank you for taking the time to review our service. Unfortunately, due to increasing demand the model of primary care has had to adapt. Face to face appointments are provided based on clinical need and/or specific groups of patients such as children, patients with hearing problems. We are able to consult with many more patients by using telephone and sometimes video consultations as well as face to face appointments and our eConsult service. We also ensure that patients with long term conditions are invited to be seen by our practice nurses at least once a year. We do have additional roles such as first contact practitioner, advanced nurse practitioner, social prescribers, dietician, and other roles so that patients are seen by the most appropriate person to meet their needs. If you are unhappy with our service, we do have a complaints procedure and we would urge you to use this procedure should you have any specific concerns. We value feedback both positive and negative and use feedback to improve our service. Thank you again for taking the time to provide us with feedback and we would be happy to discuss the problems you are experiencing should you contact the surgery.

Review titled Terrible doctors

Filled in E consult. Received email back to contact surgery for face to face appointment. Contacted surgery, told to phone back at 8am tomorrow. Why can't you make an appointment there and then? Why is it so difficult to see a doctor now? Terrible doctors now, worse since covid, wants shutting down if can't provide a service.

I have been in this, practice all my life,59 years,it’s so sad how down hill it’s gone, I don’t make appointments often, I’ve had a chest infection and cough for 5 weeks, tried making appointment was none, went to the surgery,to try and get a appointment, but none, lady receptionist, did try and see if one life, could help me,but they had no appointments either, she told me to ring back at 3,if the doctor had a phone consultation that had been cancelled, but he didn’t,I’ve rang back today,no appointments, told to come in and sign a form and give a sample to send away, meanwhile my chest is horrendous,I’ve had bottles of cough medicine,if I was fortunate to have seen a doctor 5 weeks ago and had antibiotics it would have gone, time to leave as all my family have

Review titled Life & Death

Reception is regularly poor at communication over the phone, dismissive and intrusive and if your issue doesn't fit into a preordined category completely unhelpful. Box tickers. The GP's have failed repeatedly to send my mothers life preserving prescriptions to the pharmacist. She is in tears over it and cannot understand how careless they are. We will be transferring finally to a different GP surgery. There's very little choice, but we cannot put her life in Newlands hands any longer.
