Review titled NHS at it's finest
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Ashleigh - Posted on 03 October 2024
I have been with this surgery for 3 years and it's nothing but a struggle to be heard or get past the argumentative receptionist. Today I rang for a urine test for suspected uti.. I used self catheterization and therefore samples should be provided asap to ensure sepsis doesn't occur. The receptionist told me no appointments, so I kindly asked what to do, explained the hospital have told me this is the procedure and she only wanted to argue that she hadn't said she can't help, but that I need to ring her 111 or the hospital as she had no appointments but this didn't mean she couldn't help. I'm uncomfortable and confused but didn't need an argumentative receptionist to make matters worse.

Review titled Significantly understaffed
Rated 1 star out of 5

Whilst staff are pleasant and wherever possible, accomodating, the access to medical support is atrocious. No continuity of care with on call drs not accessing medical notes before changing care pathways. On call staff did not listen to my concerns and forged ahead with an alternative care pathway without my agreement. Prescriptions take ages to be written and sent to chemist resulting in a delay in treatment. Totally unsatisfactory experience with the surgery being hugely oversubscribed. Over 6 weeks to wait for a drs appointment and no ability to book even a telephone consultation online never mind a face to face appointment. Staff very caring, but surgery totally overwhelmed.

Thank you for your comments. I am pleased that you feel our staff are pleasant and accommodating. If you would care to call the surgery to speak with me or send me a letter/e-mail with your concerns I would be happy to investigate and respond fully. Prescriptions are normally produced within our 48 working hour turnaround time, but a shortage in medications at the chemist sometimes means that this process takes longer to complete. Appointments are available on line and on the telephone up to 3 months in advance and 'on the day' are available according to clinical need and availability. We also offer an extended hours services and a weekend service to our patients at an alternative venue should this be necessary. 111 also offers an alternative service should we be unable to accommodate at the point of contact. We have good staffing levels and also aim to accommodate the needs of our patients. I look forward to hearing from you in due course should you require me to investigate your concerns further. Many thanks. Julie, Business Manager.

Review titled Poor service
Rated 2 stars out of 5

After having the coil replaced the last 5 / 10 years it was time again to get booked in. I called beginning of October giving myself two weeks to get an appointment to be told my an unhelpful/argumentative receptionist that I'll be put on the waiting list. Two weeks later no update so called again to be told again I'll be put on the waiting list. I am now coming up to two weeks past when the coil ran out and still no update. Poor communication and still no better off knowing whats happening.

I saw a senior nurse practitioner today and as well as offering advice on my medical complaint, they showed great support and interest on my bettering of mental health. Friendly and enthusiastic care made me feel very comfortable and welcome in the appointment. Thank you for your kind words and help!

Review titled Severely understaffed
Rated 1 star out of 5

We were told we had to move to this surgery from stapenhill surgery, which we thought was bad enough, somehow this is worse. The surgery is way over subscribed. If you want an appointment you have to book way in advance, have recently waited a month for an ECG only to have it cancelled the day before, next appointment a month later, so total waiting time of 2 months. 6 weeks wait for a blood test. Staff are friendly and polite but clearly under huge stress to try and accommodate a massive patient list. No continuation of care or thorough investigation of worrying symptoms, sent home without explanation or follow up. I can only imagine the neglect of vulnerable patient groups, who don't want to trouble the doctor. Prescriptions (even repeat) take weeks to be issued and available at the chemist. A other indicator that it's over subscribed and understaffed.

Thank you for your comments, I am sorry that you have not been satisfied with the service we have provided. If you would like to telephone or e-mail the surgery with your concerns I will be happy to carry out a full investigation. Whilst writing I would add that we have on the day and advance appointments available which can be booked via telephone or on-line. We also have a higher than 'best practice' GP to patient ratio availability for appointments. Urgent ECGs are normally directed straight to the hospital, however routine ECGs are carried out at the Surgery - I would imagine that if your appointment had been cancelled last minute this would be due to staff sickness – not all staff are trained to undertake ECGs. Blood tests are available in the surgery, anything considered clinically urgent will be a priority, others will be added as routine with availability on clinical need and service availability. Blood tests can also be undertaken at local hospitals and a form can be provided by the Care Navigation team on request, appointments can be booked with short timescales at the hospital to suit the requester. Repeat prescriptions have a 2 working day turnaround time from the original request time, unfortunately there are problems with some medication availability currently and if there is an alternative request needed this of course increases the turnaround time as an alternative has to be sourced and reauthorised. We take great pride in the fact that we treat all our patients equally and have processes in place for our vulnerable patients with a staff member allocated for those patients who need extra support and guidance. If you would like to contact me, I would be happy to respond to your concerns directly as previously stated. Many thanks. Julie, Business Manager.

Review titled Anomalies with appointment system
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Sue Johnson - Posted on 25 September 2024
Tried to book an emergency appointment for shoulder/arm numbness and pins & needles down left side on 20th Sept. I was given an appointment for 25th Sept. After communication with 111 & walk in centre I ended up at A & E for Ecg due to symptoms. I was told to keep 25th appointment for physio referral as luckily I was diagnosed with a trapped nerve. When making the original appointment in pain I was not fully comprehending the instructions and prior to my appointment as the location was unclear I called the surgery but couldn't get through. Therefore I followed the instructions in the confirmation text. On arrival at Newhall surgery I was told I was at the wrong location. Thus missing my appointment at Swadlincote clinic. I was offered another appointment for 30th Sept. I declined this in frustration and stated that I ended up having to go to A & E after making this original appointment. This ordeal has taking the time of 11 N H S staff which could have been avoided if the Receptionist didn't make medical judgements unless they are S Q E P in the medical profession to do so.

Dear Ms Johnson, thank you for your feedback regarding your appointment. I apologise that unfortunately you were not able to 'get through' to a member of our Care Navigation Team in this instance. (We do have a call waiting time of approximately 5 minutes) and you followed the instructions on the text. After investigation it seems that the person confirming your appointment via text did not advise of the correct venue which was quite confusing in this instance and for this we apologise. I am pleased to hear that you have now been signposted to the correct service for your symptoms. Kind regards. Julie, Business Manager.
