Hello. Yet again I have recently contacted the practice to ask for a blood test form. Yet again I was informed that I would receive a text when it was available. Yet again I didn't happen. I have also, during the same conversations, asked for five or six forms so that I could simply make an appointment with the Blood Test Unit without having to visit the Practice twice. Once to get the form (then make an appointment) and once to have the blood test. The other areas of the practice are very good. If I had six forms they would last me for 6 months plus, logic says it would be better for me and the Practice.

Week 6 of trying to get an appointment that isn't same-day, so I can make arrangements to take the time off work. I think I'm developing rsi from repeatedly answering the same questions on the AskFirst app. My previous comment about this is literally the only one the practice hasn't responded to. Which tells me all I need to know. Before this I had to get a new medication that was originally prescribed by the hospital so I called and was told I would have to speak to a doctor so they gave me a time for a telephone appointment. Instead, I got a text message from the doctor saying the medicine was added to my prescriptions. So I had no opportunity to ask about the blood tests I needed for monitoring. I think if you are told a doctor will call you then they should call you. Furthermore, that text message was treated as a medication review so my new review date was pushed back by a year. I thought with complex medical problems and multiple medications I was meant to have a proper medication review every year with at least the clinical pharmacist. A text message doesn't really cut it.

I cannot fault the care I have always received from this practice. But I am becoming increasingly frustrated and upset trying to book an appropriate appointment. The practice directs you to Ask First. You go through, in my case, three and a half minutes of questioning only to be told there are no appointments available and to try again later. Then you have to go through the same questions repeatedly. When you hit the jackpot and there are appointments available, they are only ever for the same day. For working people this is often just impractical. Especially as they are usually within the next few hours. The website says appointments will be offered for today or tomorrow. This would be slightly better, but I have never been offered anything other than same-day. And the choice of clinicians is limited so there is rarely anyone I have seen before, which is frustrating. Continuity of care is important. I have been trying for weeks to get an appropriate appointment with no luck and my problem is just getting worse. Even being able to request a telephone appointment in the first instance would help but this doesn't seem to be an option on Ask First. Please give us more choice. This is unfair to full-time working patients.

In February 2024, My 22 years old daughter contacted Nelson Surgery to schedule an appointment with a GP as she had been feeling very unwell for ten days. I suspected pneumonia, as she had it multiple times before. Upon our arrival, I went to the reception to check her in as she was too weak to do so herself. She sat down to rest, struggling to breathe. I greeted the receptionist and informed her that my daughter was there for her appointment. The receptionist responded rudely, asking me twice to speak more clearly. Despite my surprise, I simply reiterated my daughter's arrival and followed the directions given without further confrontation. The receptionist clearly heard what I was saying as she give us details where we need to go. To our dismay, instead of a GP, we were seen by a consultant who dismissed my concerns about my daughter's history of pneumonia. The consultant listened with a stethoscope and concluded that it is just a persistent cough. She mentioned that she did not hear anything unusual in the lungs. She suggested that my daughter chew gum to produce more saliva for her severe cough, which we found completely inappropriate. Without any help we back home. That evening, my daughter’s condition worsened, and we went to the hospital. There, a nurse immediately ordered a chest X-ray, which confirmed severe pneumonia. I am deeply dissatisfied with the consultant's neglectful and inappropriate advice. This incident represents a serious failure in care, and I hope to receive a response to resolve this matter. I believe the consultant should be held accountable to prevent such occurrences in the future. What is happening with the staff at Nelson Surgery? Why are they so rude and incompetent? Why is there so much anger among them? Where have the manners and kindness gone? And please do not tell me that patients can also be rude. That is not an excuse.

I phoned at 830 and was phoned back at 9 and told I am on the list for a same day consultation. At 1745 nobody has phoned me back and when I phoned the practice again they had no record of my earlier call. Not great patient care and very hard to get an appointment with the flawed booking system as there is no reference and you can be dropped from the list without consultation.

Any time I've contacted the Nelson, including this morning, I've been called back same day by a GP, given a face-to-face appointment if necessary, treated with respect and given any appropriate tests. I'm really grateful I'm registered with this practice.
