Review titled Bad communication
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I’ve been trying to book a routine appointment since the middle of last week. Phone at 8.30 to be in a queue. Finally told there were no other appointments that day. Explained I didn’t need to see a doctor that day. I just need to book an appointment for the next week or two. They didn’t want to know. I went to the surgery personally. Explained to the receptionist what I needed. She told me for a routine appointment I need to phone after 12 midday. Today I phoned after midday, only to be told I have to ring at 8.30 am. It seems the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. Frustrating is not the word I want to use, it’s a word much stronger than that.

Dear patient, thank you for your comments and feedback. I am sorry to hear of the issues you have encountered accessing our services. We are continually looking at ways to improve patient access and recognise this is a frustration for both patients and staff alike. At Erdington Medical Centre we have recently implemented V-Consult a new way of accessing our services on-line, we have found that since it was implemented in September our response times and appointment availability have improved significantly. The new triage approach frees up appointments with your doctor for more urgent and complex problems, while also giving very useful information to our clinicians prior to the consultation. This can help you get the right care when you need it. Accessing us this way is proving to be more convenient for people who, for example, find it difficult to call the surgery because of work or caring commitments. Completing an online form is a quick and easy way of letting us know what is wrong or raising a query or concern. The on-line portal is open from 08.00-11.00am and your request will be triaged by a member of the team and if appropriate an appointment will be given on the day. For clarification our phone lines open at 08.00am Monday to Friday and our doors open at 08.30am. I will share your comments with the wider team and I apologise again for any in convenience caused. If you would like to discuss anything further please do not hesitate to contact me at the surgery. Kind Regards Angela Boddy Site lead Officer Erdington Medical Centre

I find they are helpful, courteous and try to sort your needs with empathy. When phoning I felt they were listening and helping me as best they could.

Review titled Phone lottery sick joke
Rated 1 star out of 5

I've had enough of this surgery's 8am phone lottery to get an appointment or organise a doctors note. Today I missed a call from a gp as I was I the bathroom, my partner took an hour to get from 4th in phone queue to be told I was next to be called, at 11.40 my phone flashed, ring tone didn't even kick in, got a missed call fro GP who appeared to have rung off as soon as phone connected, less than a second. So I then spent a further 45 minutes to call back. Was told gp had tried twice so I could call back tomorrow morning and try again. Disgraceful!! This surgery does nothing for my blood pressure or stress levels having to deal with such poor service!!! Sick of it over the years, health care should not be a phone lottery

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry that you have had a poor experience when trying to contact the surgery to book an appointment and that you missed your first GP call and had a missed call from the GP due to the phone call being cut off. We are currently experiencing a high demand for appointments and the reception team are working hard to try and answer as many calls as they can. With regards to the call from the GP we are unable to give an exact time of the call to the patient will be made so unfortunately you missed the first call due to you being unavailable. With regards to the second call, I am unable to investigate as to why the call was cut off as I do not have your details, but if you would like to discuss the matter further, please email the surgery and ask for the Site Lead Officer to call you.
