Review titled Great practice
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Chukwudi - Posted on 31 October 2024
Today,31/10/24 I had an appointment for blood test. When I arrived at Alexander Road, the receptionist was very friendly and wears a smile. I felt welcomed and happy. She even had to put a note when I told her I had another appointment somewhere. And the guy who took my blood was so professional, I didn't know when he finished. He was so friendly and chatty all through. The two exceptional staff made my day. The first time I've been treated with so much respect in the surgery. Thank you guys.

Review titled Alexander Road Parking Problem
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Deborah Nobbs - Posted on 21 October 2024
I was due to have my Covid and Flu jab on Saturday 19th October, I was very pleased that I was able to book my jabs on a Saturday. I arrived at Alexander Road at 8.50am and My timeslot for my jabs was 9.35am. There was no parking at the surgery so I tried to park on Alexander Road. I took plenty of change with me as I was told that there are parking metres. Found somewhere to park and went to the parking metre to pay for parking only to find out that it was Ringo Parking and the only way I could park was to download their app. So feeling stressed and wet ad the weather was awful, I managed to download the app, then I had to add my card number, but it would not accept my card. I tried to call the surgery at Alexander Road, but it was just a message. Knowing that my car could be towed if i left it there without paying I drove home feeling stressed and upset. I cannot understand why there is no parking or I was not told I would need to download the app. To be able to park on the road. Alexander Road surgery is 40 minutes walk from where I live and as the Covid jab has made me ill before I could walk. There is no consideration about the patients and how they are going to be able to park. I know I will Probably receive a parking fine from Ringo parking. So this appointment I couldn't make for no fault of my own has also cost me money. Really not happy with this surgery, every time I try to make an appointment it is a problem for them. What has happened to running a service. I just don't see a service there anymore. This surgery has got worse. I have been at patient here for 40 years and they are just not running a service any more. Booking an appointment at this surgery is really difficult and then when you finally manage to get an appointment there is no parking.

Dear Deborah Nobbs, Thank you for your feedback. I'm so sorry to hear about your experience with parking at Alexandra Road. I am Samantha Lethbridge, the reception manager. First, let me apologise if you were informed incorrectly about the parking meters being accessible by using the Ringo app. Since we have been open, we have not had an issue with patients being unable to park at the surgery, and we will take your feedback into consideration when organising a clinic of this size in the future. We are always looking at ways to try and develop our service, and our process for booking appointments recently changed on the 14th of October, where patients are now asked to complete an online triage form via our website or a link can be sent to patients via text. All requests are then triaged by the clinical team and passed to the relevant clinician or service to try and provide patients with a more efficient service. I am happy to discuss it further with you on 0118 9337445. Regards, Samantha Lethbridge, reception manager

Excellent care by my GP. He checked my results carefully, talked me through them and reassured me about my illness. Always knowledgeable and concerned with my health. New surgery is a vast improvement; good place to see the doctor.

Review titled Painless and efficient
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Peter Harrad - Posted on 19 July 2024
I write this having left a scathing review 5 years ago (which I feel was deserved). But this time I found the process good, even impressive. The phone was answered fairly quickly, the receptionist was polite and efficient; the consultation was polite, to the point and got me what I needed. Whatever changes have been made in 5 years, they were the right ones. I'm sure that frontline services deal with a lot of difficult patients, but my experience here has restored my (previously low) faith in the NHS.

Review titled Poor Practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by L Roberts - Posted on 15 May 2024
I have been with this surgery for 30 years and it has gotten worse and worse over the last 5 years. Today I called at 07:59, and didn’t get through to the rude receptionists until 08:52. “No appointments left for today, only phone calls”. I asked to speak to the practice manager and was told “well they’re not going to get you an appointment”, my reason for wanting to talk to them was to make a complaint, not for promise of an appointment. What angers me more is that at my last appt the GP asked me to come back, how can I if there’s never any appointments? I’m surprised to see that they are still accepting new patients when there’s never any appointments available?? It’s the same thing every time with this surgery, the doctors are nice but you have more chance of seeing pigs fly than getting a face to face appointment. Finally, the surgery is incredibly run down, I don’t know if it’s ever been cleaned or painted as it’s looked the same since 1994. I know it had some renovation work done but it looks like the builders left half way through.

I attended Melrose surgery three times recently and would like to thank everyone involved there, particularly the doctors and the practice nurse for their enthusiasm and very caring natures which felt personalised towards me - quite remarkable! The receptionists were friendly and efficient. Thank you Melrose, you are outstanding.
