Review titled Gone from bad to worse
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Mary P - Posted on 26 September 2023
Just spent over an hour in the telephone queue system only to have the call disconnected when I reached number two. Same thing last week, tried twice and cut off both times after a lengthy wait....ended up having to go to the surgery and speak to a receptionist who said "I'm not surprised, loads of people have been saying that!" Any chance of getting this sorted out? Patient access has gone from bad to worse. Almost everyone I know at this Surgery have or are trying to transfer elsewhere, can't help wondering if that's the intention.

Dear Mary, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you had issues getting through on the phone. Unfortunately, this was due to a problem with the phone system that was beyond our control. We are currently in the process of procuring a new phone system which will manage the demand more efficiently. Once again, I am sorry that you experienced this issue. Yours sincerely, Jo Beniston, Head of Clinical Governance

A simple contraceptive pill check and repeat prescription. I booked in and saw the nurse on the 22nd August - leaving plenty of time before I needed a repeat script. Went to the pharmacy today and they didn't have it. Phoned the script team, she couldn't understand what had gone wrong, but said I would be able to pick up the first 3 months worth by the end of the week. I then got a text from the surgery saying that because I hadn't had a pill review I was only being issued with one month and to make an appointment (My appointment was on the 22nd August). Called the script team again, same girl gave no real explanation but said I would be able to pick up one months by the end of the week, and would have to go back next week for the other 2. This is a waste of time and energy, and is the last straw in what has been a series of errors and poor service over the last few years, I've put in a request to register at a new surgery, one that is not run by Mayflower. Incidentally, when I had my nurses appointment last month I discovered that the surgery had not updated my address from September last year, despite the relevant forms being completed and it being chased up previously and having been told it had been completed. Turned out the note had been put in the wrong place on my profile. You can not trust this surgery to get anything right.

Arrived 4 mins late because of school traffic. Waited behind lady to check in on computer screen which took 4/5 mins and wouldn't let her check in then wouldn't let us check in so both had to wait at desk for another 5 mins for receptionist to stop talking and finally come back to the desk then it took a few more mins to check older lady in because she was hard of hearing. We finally got checked in and sat down 15 mins later i asked receptionist how much longer she said we were next in bearing in mind this was 30 mins after my daughters appointment. Then 15 mins after me asking receptionist came out and said sorry she cant see your daughter because you were late so i explained how long we waited for her and that the machine wasn’t working and why has it taken nearly 40 mins to come and tell me we cant be seen. She just stared at me and said nurse can see your daughter in may bearing in mind we were told needed to be seen within 2 weeks but ended up being 5 weeks. Absolute joke mannamead surgery is.

Review titled Unsafe and uncaring

My parents are registered with this practice. I have been unconvinced of the capabilities of the staff for a while. This has been further confounded since the introduction of the ‘e consult’. Our most recent experience was my mum being told she didn’t have bowel cancer….that would have been great had they been her results! I have no faith that the actual blood results she was given were hers. She was then sent a list of foods to eat to improve her b9 deficiency. Most of which she is intolerant to. If this was the only single issue I could accept it as human error, sadly though it is not.

Review titled Can't be bothered to write a note
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Mandelai Wolfe - Posted on 03 February 2023
Took my 13 year old child to a Doctors appoitment at Mannamead Surgery this morning, left at 10:15am. When leaving I asked the woman at reception to please write my daughter a note for her school and she refused. Said her daughter went to the same school so my child didn't need a note. She told me to use the text message sent to my phone and give it to the school explaining that it might have come to my phone but its an appointment for my daughter. She's just sat there, refusing to write a note and I don't understand why she just couldn't take minute to help me? It was ridiculous and pretty much sums up the service you get at Mannamead Surgery.

Review titled Still unhelpful

I have continuously rang the practice all day today to no avail as constantly engaged wanting information of my dementia mother. No surprise. No wonder I left the practice.

Dear Caroline, I am sorry that you had difficulty getting through to the practice on 27th January. The engaged tone means that phone lines are saturated, but this normally only lasts for short periods. I have reviewed our call data which tells us 88% of calls were answered within 20 minutes. If you would like me to look into this in more detail for you, please send an email to: d-icb.mayflower.feedback@nhs.net Alternatively, you can complete the feedback form on our website under "Have your say". Review titled Pointless GP Surgery
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 14 November 2022
My daughter is asthmatic and having experienced a very uncomfortable night with asthmatic cough/tight chest contacted the surgery at 8am to be told that she would receive a phone call from a "clinician". Contacted the surgery again a couple of hours later as no call. Rude receptionist said that daughter's information would be triaged and if it was felt that she needed medical attention (how could she not?) someone would call but no way of knowing if or when a call would come. Asthma is apparently not seen as a priority. Waited until early evening with no call so contacted 111 who advised to go straight to Derriford as likely needed to be prescribed a steroid which turned out to be the case after a six hour wait to be seen. It would have taken a GP all of five minutes to carry out an examination and prescribe the required steroid at the surgery instead of which my daughter spent all day waiting for a non-existent call from the Surgery and and then hours more waiting into the night to be seen at Derriford. What exactly is the point of this Surgery now? It seems that funding is being spent on employing an army of front line, less than pleasant receptionists whose main objective is to turn as many patients away as possible. If a patient with a medical condition that can compromise breathing cannot access medical support when needed, what hope for anyone else?

Review titled Very sad shocking service decline
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 November 2022
I attended the surgery this morning and witnessed an elderly lady at the reception desk wanting to make an appointment, the receptionist informed her that she would have to ring in. The lady explained that she is deaf and unable to use the telephone... receptionist left the desk to speak to someone and returned to inform the lady that she must ring in to get an appointment so would need to get a neighbor/friend/family member to do it for her. A couple of people in the queue pointed out that you do not always want other people to know about your medical appointments which the receptionist agreed with, she also agreed that it was not right for the lady (who incidentally had no one to phone for her) not to be able to make an appointment but said again that she was unable to help. Absolutely shocking!!

Review titled Terrible

by Karen collins - Posted on 19 December 2022
I have just spent a week from hell as someone decided without any consultation or explanation to half one of my drugs and without warning. This meant I completely ran out and have had so many panic attacks it’s been an awful 7 days. I have been with the practise for more than 30 years and I would have recommended them to anyone, however now I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy
