Review titled Appointment request rejected again
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Rejected - Posted on 16 July 2024
i visited the long furlong medical centre yesterday - 15 july 2024 - to request an appointment for a doctor to review my medical record and complete the driver vehicle licensing agency medical form "d4". i am 69 and completion of this form is a legal requirement to allow me to continue to drive after my 70th birthday. was told to return again tomorrow - 16 july 2024. this i have now done but this time I was told that only "same day" appointments were available providing i booked them at 08:30hrs on the day. ideally i wanted to book an appointment with any doctor for a time convenient to both the doctor and patient for any day in the near future. i now understand that long furlong have recently introduced a new policy of same day only bookings. this is not only inconvenient but inappropriate for a good doctor / patient relationship. i questioned what i should do if hypothetically, i were to be taken ill later in the day, and was told that i should ring "one one one" and it was implied that i should not bother my local surgery. frankly i think this policy is disgraceful and ultimately will only serve to drive patients to seek better service at an alternative medical practice. i have not been able to post my review as i received this response, "your review cannot include words that are all in capital letters" in fact it appears that no upper case letters are permitted and so i have removed them to make it acceptable as poor english.

Dear patient Thank you for your feedback. If you are requiring a medical form to be completed from the DVLA, you will need to drop the form off at the surgery. If a medical is required, please contact the surgery and ask to book a medical and an appointment can be made for you.

Review titled Restricted access to a doctor when politely requested
Rated 3 stars out of 5

I am becoming increasingly frustrated by the policy of this practice that prevents access to a doctor for a legally required medical review in order to retain my driving licence. It appears that I cannot book a non-urgent appointment with any doctor at Long Furlong Medical Centre, by visiting reception in person, by telephone, or online. The online appointment booking system simply does not work as the "make an appointment" form has been removed from the website. I do not make a habit of seeking medical help but when it is genuinely needed I am met with a polite but firm refusal from the reception staff. On the few occasions I have seen a doctor, the doctor has been both polite, efficient, and understanding of my medical needs, and when necessary has immediately referred me to expert medical help at a local hospital. In the past I have complained to the practice administration about the apparent lack of concern for patient's wellbeing by this practice's policy of restricting access to a doctor, that sadly the reception staff have to pass on. When responding to this concern I received a stern written response from the practice's admin accusing me of being abusive to their staff - something I have never been.

Review titled unfriendly/ unsupportive medical secretary

i had to make two phone calls to the surgery today. i spoke to the same admin person every time. The first time i was left feeling everything was too much trouble and difficult for the person to deal with. But the person did leave a message for a health care professional i felt worse as the day went on and phoned one one one. The outcome was that i was asked to phone the surgery once an assessment had been sent. I did so. The first comment was: "I have already spoken to you once today". And the person added in "I have already sent the message". She sounded fed up and reluctantly said the duty doctor would phone back later. Complete lack of compassion and empathy. Such a shame , most of the doctors at this surgery are so caring

Both the receptionist and the nurse who dealt with my care were great today. I was seen on the same day I called which I very appreciative for. Thank you

I took my elderly Father to this surgery twice and on both occasions the receptionist’s were friendly and efficient and the Doctor was kind, knowledgeable and helpful. The communication is excellent. I can’t fault it.
