  1. Review titled Efficient procedure and helpful advice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Linda Johns - Posted on 09 October 2024

The nurse today checked carefully what was needed and my details. She dealt efficiently with the procedure and gave me real reassurance on matters I asked her about which set my mind at ease greatly. She then pointed out when next I needed to come for the next procedure so I could put it in the diary. She was friendly and yet professional which gave me great confidence and explained things very well.

Following a procedure at St Richards Maxillo-Facial Unit i had a severe pain that came on over the Easter holiday. I clealy had an infection so called in to the the surgery in the morning and was given an apointment with a Dispensing nurse the next day. She examined my wound in detail and prescribed antibiotics. Fantastic service and very greatful for the attantion I received

  5. Review titled Terrible surgery

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 December 2023

I have rung 3 days in a row for an appointment for my 2 year old who has a chronic condition to be told to ring 111 as no appointments and no urgent on the day appointments despite me saying my daughter is vulnerable. As a result she ended up going into hospital as she got worse at home. She just needed antibiotics. I rung up again today as she needed more antibiotics as not improved and again told to ring 111. I’m really disgusted that as a surgery you don’t prioritise children especially ones that are vulnerable. Other surgeries locally would make an appointment for a child or get the duty dr to call. I feel very let down! I can never get an appointment for myself and have to book an appointment for 6-8 weeks time which is crazy but for my children I expect them to be able to get the help they need from the GP. I will be putting a complaint through as my daughter got worse and it could have been prevented if she saw the dr on day 1! Once you get past the receptionists and actually see a dr or a nurse they are all lovely and I have no complaints with them!

Thank you for taking the time to provide your comment. By doing so we are able to review feedback and make appropriate changes for the continued care and wellbeing of our patients. We are very sorry to hear that you are not happy with the surgery. We continue to see extremely high levels of demand for appointments. To ensure patient safety we are following the recommendations for safe working set out by the British Medical Association. From the beginning of April we have been forced to make significant changes to our appointment rota and how we handle requests for appointments. The reason for the changes is a variation to our contract, imposed by the government, without negotiation. The main result of the changes is that when our appointments are all booked we cannot ask patients to call back on another day. This means that when all available appointments have been filled, patients will be directed to other services, this is likely to be 111 or Accident and Emergency but could include local pharmacies and other agencies. No-one at Lavant Road welcomes these changes; we feel they may result in decreased continuity of care and continue a government backed process to undermine your GP surgeries in favour of an anonymous salaried doctor service. There is nothing wrong with the surgery- based, family doctor model we currently run, it just needs better investment and resource. If you feel strongly about these changes then please lobby your MP, please do not complain to the management at Lavant Road Surgery. Many thanks, Ciara Newman Practice Manager

  6. Review titled Helpful Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Revd Canon Nigel Mason - Posted on 15 February 2024

Recently retired and looking to improve my health, however, like most men anxious about visiting GP. I also needed to find out results of tests from my previous GP's practice. I was able to express my concerns and fears, received a gentle, friendly and helpful response, and left the appointment encouraged and assured.

Phoned to book an appointment after an uncomfortable weekend and told there was no appointment available until December. That is 5 - 6 weeks time.

  8. Review titled Very pleased, professionalism spotted my cancer early

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Henry - Posted on 02 November 2023

Due to the diligence of the doctor here my lung cancer was detected early and then quickly and efficiently dealt with. I'll always be thankful and impressed by the way this was spotted and so professionally dealt with in its initial discovery and follow up. There is no doubt in my mind that had this not been found when it was, when I was completely unaware of it with no discomfort or overt symptoms, that it would have developed into something much more serious and difficult to deal with, most probably fatal. As it was the care I received meant that the cancer was relatively small and localised and so could be dealt with by timely surgery.

  9. Review titled terrible appointment booking system

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 May 2023

I have hardly ever had the need to see a GP but on the odd occasion I do, I called at 8am on the dot and was already caller 20 in the queue. I waited in the queue for 26 minutes where they offered me one a appointment, where unfortunately I just could not make so instead of offering me one for a later date, I was advised to call in again at 8am the next day and wait another goodness knows how long. I have ended up calling 7 times previously as by the time I got to the front of the queue, all the appointments were gone. Surely the receptionists can offer us appointments even if they are weeks in advance. I have been forced to go private for a GP appointment as I dont want to risk leaving my symptoms to go unchecked.

We are very sorry to hear that you are not happy with the surgery. Unfortunately we continue to see extremely high levels of demand for appointments and this is reflected in the volumes of patients who call through to us each day meaning that there can at times be a considerable wait on the telephone to speak to us. 10. Review titled Rude receptionist

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 May 2024

I have ceased calling for appointments due to the receptionist's unprofessional demeanor. She appears to consider herself more qualified than the medical professionals I seek. I have been informed that appointments can only be booked on the day, and no future appointments are available. This has resulted in delays that have led to hospital admissions, which could have been avoided with timely medication. Furthermore, I am uncomfortable discussing my medical issues with the receptionist, who attempts to predict the doctor's advice. I do not require her input; otherwise, I would seek her counsel directly instead of a doctor's. It is evident that she lacks the qualifications to prescribe medication or offer medical advice. The NHS is a public service intended to be accessible to all, and the receptionist should not act as a barrier to receiving necessary medical care. Please facilitate a process that allows me to book appointments with a doctor directly, rather than having to explain my life story to the receptionist every time.
