Review titled Lack of care
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 November 2024
I had surgery in April abroad . My surgeon is very well known within the bariatric community here in England, he is also a professor and well respected. However, since surgery I have had daily chronic abdominal pain nausea and bowel changes . After several trips to the gp and AnE I asked my gp for an endoscopy but she refused stating I don’t have signs of cancer ( this reasoning is incorrect as you can have any symptoms of GI problems for a referral if warranted ) . I then had to fight for this test, the hospital ordered it. The results indicated inflammation of the tummy lining but nothing else (I had gastritis last year before surgery) they then ordered a CT scan and this was clear. Due to ongoing pain and no further treatments or test offered by GP I asked if I could try anti biotics for what I thought maybe suspected bacterial infection but also to resolve the inflammation in tummy lining . This was also refused with no treatment or tests offered . I have been left with suspected gastritis again plus surgery complications with no medication or referrals for further testing . I have now had to fight for a referral to Summerset bariatric team who are happy to see me as I have now been discharged from Devon services . I have spoken to my surgeon who have suggested I try two medications for one month as he suspects my pancreas is not producing enzymes to digest foods . I have again emailed the GP and awaiting a response. I am in chronic pain irrespective of I eat or not but eating and drinking make the pain worse . I am under eating as a result and this means I am in danger of malnutrition. I have no pain killers that work to manage the pain until I see a specialist at bariatric hospital (long wait list) and the gp is being obstructive and gate keeping the budget at the detriment of my health , gp and general gi doctors are not bariatric specialists and therefore they should be leasing with specialists and my surgeon. I no longer feel safe with this practice or my gp and lost all faith . I should be offered a pancreas functioning test , stool test , slow emptying test a colonoscopy test for example and instead I am being ignored and dismissed. This is not best practice and keeping patients safe . I am in agony every single day with no pain relief with the fear that what ever is going on is going to result in permanent damage.

Review titled Great team practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by William Thorne - Posted on 18 April 2024
Having received diagnostic expertise, multiple treatments and advice from at least 9 clinicians - doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses and HCAs over the last 2 months I have been impressed by how they have done their best to accommodate my needs, prescribed medication and delivered care which is gradually solving my problems. Thank you to the whole team who have done a great job so far.

Review titled Terrible Service
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Called for an emergency app only to be told by receptionist that the paramedic said severe and agonising back problem isn't an emergency yet I can barely move. A paramedic isn't a dr! Also on previous calls I was given an ultimatum either I book for a phone call for pain relief or a face to face to find out the cause of my problem, can't have both!! I have been with this surgery for 14 years and this is the worst experience ever. Stop blaming the government for receptionists/paramedics who think they play god! Absolute jobs worth! I can actually see why unfortunately they get abuse. Someone in pain and they don't want to help. Even 111 and torbay hospital was disgusted by their behaviour. Shame as I most of the Drs are great. Gutted the former receptionists have gone. Much more efficient then!

Review titled Aweful practice

You can’t even get through on the phone before they used to have a system where you could ring and they had a queueing system now they only have an automated message telling me that they are too busy and call back later. I can’t seem to get An appointment, I will probably have to be so ill that I am hospitalised before I can be seen to. When it could’ve been simply rectified by just being given some medication. I know it’s probably not the medical practices fault but actually the government should give them more money so that they can have technology and the correct amount of staff for that medical practice.

Review titled You must sort the phone system
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Judi Hutchison - Posted on 28 March 2024
I had this trouble a few weeks back, whenever I rang I was within seconds cut off so I ended up travelling to the surgery. Today the same thing happened so I went onto the website and rang the number from there. I was 9th in the queue but when I got down to 3rd in the queue I was cut off. I tried again and was 7th in the queue but again when I got down to 2nd in the queue I was cut off again. This problem should have surely been solved by now. This is not days but weeks. When I did visit the surgery last time I had to wait quite a while in the queue .No problem! But all the time I was there the reception phone never rang once. You are obviously paying for a vital service that is not working while patients are frustrated and often worried because they can’t contact the surgery. On the recorded message it says if cut off or have problems you will do your best to get back to whoever is ringing. That doesn’t happen either.

I was impressed by the flexibility available to provide an unexpectedly extensive service at a normal appointment when circumstances required it. Always a professional, friendly and reassuring service which helped me immensely.

Review titled Poor communication
Rated 3 stars out of 5

I was not told I needed a GP review before continuing my repeat medication. I was not told that my prescription request had been rejected by the pharmacist. When I queried it, I was then not told when the GP rejected the prescription request also. This has led to a break in my treatment which I am concerned will have a detrimental effect on the treatment success.

After waiting 2 weeks to speak to a doctor on the day I was expecting the call from the doctor I received a call from someone at the surgery saying he wasn’t going to speak to me.

Review titled Worrying, lack of patient care
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Takes over 40mins to answer the call. No one contracts you to see how a new medication is going (for a child) & just keep issuing repeats even though you are requesting this medication every week to 2 weeks. Called to discuss if the numbness & tingling in the arm, is it a aside affect when using the medication? to be told the next appointment is mid November (6th October called). Over a month.
