Review titled Good response, helpful receptionist
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 October 2024
Yesterday I ran out of vital medicines as I had forgotten to reorder. I was very stressed and I'm afraid that came across when I called the surgery. The receptionist was helpful and supportive and managed to calm me down and assure me they would get on the case immediately. He did. Within an hour a GP had called me and reordered the drugs I needed to be at the pharmacist that day. The same receptionist rang me back shortly after this to confirm the GP conversation had taken place and to say he would ensure the necessary email went to my pharmacist right away. It did. I was able to pick up the drugs later yesterday and resume taking them immediately. I particularly want to praise and thank the receptionist who dealt so calmly and positively with a stressed and demanding patient with total professionalism. Well done!

Dear patient, Thank you so much for taking the time to recognise how great our staff are and sharing this online. Our receptionists are trained to a very high standard, however they are also human too: they understand what it feels like to be stressed and how this can affect our lives. We know that our jobs sometimes involve seeing people when they are not feeling their best, but we do not judge, and we do not allow this to change how we care for our patients either! We are overjoyed that we could support you and give you the care you deserve, and we will feed this back to our staff to ensure they feel appreciated and continue to work so hard. Kind regards, Islington Central Medical Centre

Review titled 5* Experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Katie - Posted on 26 September 2024
I can't say enough good things of my experience with all of the staff at this surgery. Reception is really well run; the audiologists I saw were so thorough and kind with the tests they ran on each of my visits; and the Doctor was very engaged and clear with his explanations and recommendations for treatment. I never felt rushed by any staff members, and am thrilled that the treatment plan recommended to me has resolved the issue I was experiencing without the need for a surgical intervention. Thank you so much!

I came in with a cut on my arm that was coming in the wrong direction. The nurse saw me immediately, without an appointment and resolve the issue. She was excellent.

Dear patient, Thank you so much for leaving us such a considerate review. As a family practice we want to be there for the little ones as well as our more mature patients. It is incredibly cliché to say that children are our future, but our staff truly understand this (and it helps that they are very cute)! We genuinely appreciate our staff (in all roles) because they do their jobs well and, as you said, they care. We love to brag about how kind our staff are; they look out for each other and each of their patients and it is such a privilege for us to be able to say this! Kind regards, Islington Central Medical Centre

Review titled Bureaucratic nightmare, disorganised, dsyfunctional
Rated 1 star out of 5

It is extremely hard to book an appointment with this GP. I have a private medical every year through work and it is impossible to ever discuss the results with my GP. The data they do have on me is inaccurate and never gets updated. I then get told to come in for blood tests and the results arent communicated with me. It all leaves me very disillusioned and wanting to go private entirely as the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing (and isnt that interested in any case as far as i can see, but just wants to have a large number of patients on the book). That said, everyone I talk to - whether receptionists or doctors are uniformly polite and helpful. Its just that nobody is keeping proper records or coordinating provision.

Dear patient, Thank you for taking the time to write to us and highlight what we are doing well and what we can improve. I’d like to thank you for complimenting our staff. No matter what happens with the NHS as a whole or our surgery’s communication with other services, our staff are an impressive, polite and hard-working team that we are incredibly proud of. This doesn’t mean things are always smooth sailing. It is difficult to understand what has truly happened in this case as we cannot track your files without a name, but we would like to look into this for you. If you could email us at islingtoncentralmc@nhs.net we can investigate this issue. There is often difficulty sharing and receiving results from external services due to the confidential nature of medical records and verification that has to take place but if we can find a solution, we will! Kind regards, Islington Central Medical Centre

I’m absolutely satisfied after my last visit. The Doctor helped me to understand what exactly is the problem and the reason of pain. All is solved and I am feeling much better, hopefully soon everything will be fine.

Dear Ms Ruseva, Thank you for this kind review and thank you for highlighting the importance of understanding ones own conditions. At ICMC, we work hard to make sure we understand what is going on with your health, but we also feel it is incredibly important to inform our patients about what is happening in their bodies and minds. It is such a joy to hear that this was helpful to you, and we were able to help you in your recovery! Uplifting reviews like this one help us to keep going, even when times are tough, so thank you for taking the time to share this positive feedback. Kind regards, Islington Central Medical Centre

Review titled Push for private referrals
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 June 2024
First thing GP asked about if I have private insurance. He did not bothered at all about my 2 years old son issue but whole conversation was that he pushed me to pay privately because nhs has waiting list. Seems like NHS give GP bonuses for pushing babies for private treatments.

Dear Patient, Thank you for your feedback however this is extremely unusual and is something which has never happened here. No GP gets any ‘bonuses’ for private referrals. If a patient wants to be seen in the private sector, that is their right, and it is our role to facilitate that for the patient, as the GP is the advocate for the patient. Whether the patient wants to be seen privately or on the NHS it is the GPs role to advise and guide on that. We all know that there are long waiting lists on the NHS and following the pandemic and NHS funding issues, this has been a major issue, as has been highlighted in the news. This puts the GP and, above all, the patient in a very difficult situation. We have found increasingly that patients want to explore the private sector and the GP, where possible, can signpost the patient with this but only if the patient wants. All our GPs are firmly committed and supportive of the NHS and would only advise on the NHS route until a patient proposed the idea of private care. Perhaps it would be helpful to write to us to give further details to enable us to investigate your particular issue. You can reach us at islingtoncentralmc@nhs.net Kind regards, Islington Central Medical Centre

Dear Ms Ndichu, Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to give us this feedback. We love a ‘mum and baby check up’ as it gives us opportunity to celebrate your new arrival! We understand, as GPs of many years and some of us parents, that this can be a time of exciting change but also major adjustment so we are thrilled that we were able to help where we could.
