Review titled Used to be good

It's such a shame how much this GP practice has gone down hill. Never used to have to wait on the phone and now you wait half hour minimum. I called today, was advised I would retain my queue position if I opted for a call back.. it took 1.5 hours for a call back. You expect people to be at your beacon call and keep their phone on them so you're there for the call back, we have jobs too, we can't sit and wait that long. You can't get an appointment online, you can't contact any other way but phone. I don't know how I'm supposed to get an appointment. It's unreal.

Saw pharmacy about throat pain and was advised to see Dr, so called surgery , they called back an hour later and I saw Dr half an hour later. There was a wait on the phone but all staff helpful and knowledgeable. They are busy but I was treated efficiently.

Due to an emergency was asked by the practice to move my appointment to a special Saturday morning surgery. Was very impressed with the commitment of the doctor with coming in on a weekend and helping me with my systems.

Review titled Excellent GP

My GP is always excellent as she was today, but today I felt I also had to comment on the services of the male receptionist on duty. He was very attentive and helpful to all patients both in person at the desk and on the telephone.

Review titled Terrible service
Rated 1 star out of 5

Not only did I have to wait three weeks to see the doctor of my choice (because they specialise in a particular field) but while waiting for the date, my appointment time has been changed three times via text with no easy way to change if it doesn’t suit - bar calling the main telephone line and getting stuck in the queueing system for 40-odd minutes to actually speak to someone - and that’s even if I want to cancel it. They want the public to be responsible and not skip appointments, but the surgery doesn’t really make it easy for people to do so.

Review titled Impossible to book an appointment by phone today
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Philip - Posted on 16 November 2022
I have been using Hughenden Valley Surgery since 1979. In those days if you needed an appointment you would phone early morning and be given a time that morning. If only we could turn back the clock as there are now so many people using this surgery and it feels impossible to make an appointment. The online system earlier this week was offering a couple of appointments towards the end of December and first week of January 2023. An alternative was at the end of November. I started trying to phone around 10 and the phone was engaged, I kept on pushing the redial button throughout the morning and just after 1 a message came on saying closed till 2 to change over staff. I tried many times in the afternoon and even tried the Chequers Surgery in Prestwood but that was also engaged. By chance around 5.45 the call was answered by the system, politely reminding people not to get abusive with a call handler (if you could even get that far) and I joined a queue of 10. By 7.20 the system was still saying 3 ahead of me and as I had been waiting over an hour and a half gave up. This is not good when you hear of surgeries in other parts of Bucks and Somerset that takes a call in the morning and the patient can see the GP that morning. A lot of effort has gone into the Covid-19 vaccine programme there and it would be good if Hughenden Valley Surgeries could concentrate on seeing their patients.

Review titled Once you get through...
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 15 November 2022
A generally wonderful practice with good vaccination and GP services, hindered by an absolutely abysmal appointment-booking infrastructure. For some reason, the telephone "please hold" queue has been ditched in favour of no queue whatsoever, so it's a miracle to get through to anyone (I have tried calling a hundred times in fifteen minutes). It also appears that you need to first have an appointment in order to be able to book non-routine appointments online, which somewhat defeats the point of being able to book an "urgent" appointment online. Please can something be done to fix an utterly broken system which seems to let down an otherwise stellar medical team?
