  1. Review titled Embarrassing

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Chris - Posted on 29 August 2024

Had an issue with my prescription again. Been a nightmare over the last 3/4 months with me been advised to go back to my psychiatrist at Osborne House as the attached pharmacy don’t have the correct dosage of a certain medication. They have varying milligram’s but not the exact mg I need in one dose. So I have to go to Osbourne House to ask if they would provide a script. My GP refused to issue because rather than having 200mg in one tablet they only have 50mg and 25mg. So I’d be taking ie 4 tablets rather than one. Same total mg but GP will not allow prescription to be issued. Madness. Today I realised that another one of my medications hadn’t been released to me. Was told I need a review after I went to query. Went in today pharmacist blamed surgery and surgery blamed pharmacist. Asked to see Practice Manager and a lady came out without introducing herself . After much discussion I was told they would release my medication but review me for it next week. I need a review apparently but they have issued the medication and I have been booked for a review in 5 days time. Isn’t that the wrong way round? Zero communication re review until I went in to query the situation. Lady told me to go on NHS website to book an appointment over another issue whereby a GP has advised me to come in for a check up re anaemia. Simply can’t get an appointment. Again, farcical. The lady then told me it would be best if I found another GP practice!! Turned out she wasn’t even the Practice Manager…still don’t know why she led me to believe that she was! So because of continual issues with appalling treatment from this surgery which she refused to apologise for, instead they advise me to leave. Been here for 10 odd years. Why should I move because somebody who impersonated the Practice Manager doesn’t know how to resolve the incompetent service I’ve received over this current episode.

  2. Review titled Going Above and Beyond

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sarah - Posted on 22 August 2024

Poorly 94 year old mother was superbly cared for by Doctors and nurses. Lots of excellent communication. Phone calls to check o. My mom’s health and her progress. Lot’s of relevant advice, good discussions and responses to my listening to my endless questions. The doctor m’s care was evident and so helpful in engaging and following up with other agencies. We have used Handsworth Wood Medical Centre for over 50years, with only my mother still registered as we live out of the area and this has been the best period of care we have had for 3 generations of our family. It is so reassuring when you really need the support that it has not only been provided but the professionals have gone above and beyond for my mother and continue to do so. A* and a shiny gold sticker to you. You are greatly appreciated.

Dear Shirley, I am sorry to see that you have struggled to contact the Practice via the telephone. We are currently experiencing increased demand on our telephone lines, which has resulted in longer wait times. Our patient services team has been working very hard to answer calls under the additional pressure. However, I recognise that difficulties in accessing the Practice can be extremely frustrating for our patients and I apologise unreservedly for any upset or inconvenience. Please be assured that the staff at the Practice are working to their capacity in these challenging circumstances. Kind regards Frankie Patient Experience Team

Rated 1 star out of 5

If I could give 0 stars I would. This practice doctors and professionalism is absolutely atrocious I contacted the doctors a few weeks back regarding a serious issue I was facing which was completely ignored then I was sent a rude email from the Patient Experience Officer. 0 stars!

  6. Review titled Let down

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by Janice,Flora - Posted on 25 August 2023

I understand & respect the strain on GP surgeries, so i rarely interact with them, but on this occasion having tried self-help & the local pharmacy, I sought GP advice. Feeling unwell & despite the inclination to stay asleep, I woke up & went on line at a second past 8 a.m. to find no appointments available. I tried another couple of times then hit the phone at 8.03. & established my place in queue with the assurance of a call back, which I got at 9.15 but only to inform me that there were no appointments available, & with no triage whatsoever. Though in pain the alternative of contacting 111 seemed extreme & a big leap from brief & convenient conversation with a local practitioner. I know this is also a more general & common cause for complaint yet my husband gets excellent service from Newtown Health Centre & has always secured a short notice call back from a doctor. I have been a patient for almost 50 years & my record will show that I am not a time waster or a hypochondriac - I feel so very disappointed & let down today. I have seen the bad press that the surgery has recently had & my experience seems to confirm the criticism around accessibility at short notice need.

  7. Review titled Staff are lovely but...

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 May 2023

It takes hours to get through, during the entire day. GP doesn't call when they are meant to. The Callback service doesn't work. It definitely isn't the reception/call centre staff's issue. They are lovely and do try to help where they can. However there is obviously a breakdown somewhere with in this surgery as the patients are unable to access appointments online, they need to call for repeat medications - unable to get these in any other way, 8:00 morning queues are above 30 for over 2 hours sometimes.

  8. Review titled Bad practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 March 2023

i have called numerous times to try and make an appointment regarding my menstrual cycle and seeing if i possibly have endometriosis. i got a blood test in January, in which on arrival to the appointment the nurse had no idea what i was in for, so i had to tell her and she replied with ‘oh well i had bad periods at your age’ which felt completely invalidating because everyone has different pain thresholds and periods. the doctor that then rang me a few days later, who was male, spent about 5 minutes on the phone telling me the results and then tried telling me that my bmi was high, and exercise and loosing weight would probably help me. again, it felt really invalidating because i know my body best and as a woman, dialling everything back to weight and size is ridiculous, especially bmi as it is an outdated method. my issue is not with my weight it is with my periods and also the possibly of having pmdd which is a severe version of pms. i just feel unseen, unheard and constantly dismissed. as a young person it feels horrible knowing I can’t comfortably ring the surgery without multiple obstacles to even book an appointment for an ongoing issue.

  10. Review titled Concerned

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 February 2023

Not a review, just comments. I have for years had bad experiences with this surgery getting through on the phone, making appointments, just getting to see a doctor. To the point where it has put me off getting my health looked after. I received a standard text the other day saying how people can no longer queue outside to make an appointment. As it is hard to get through on the phone, as it is now, l am hoping with the new measures you have announced you will be employing quite a few more " call handlers". I have experience in the past of waiting 2 hours for phone to be answered only when reaching that point to be cut off. Why do l not use the digital way of getting through. Well once l was provided with only half the information required, and twice l have got the information needed and got as far as "change password" and it wont work. I am due for an annual review, so remains to be seen how successful getting in for that is going to be. A suggestion now; after my 12 months of collecting meds once a month rather than every 3. Once your results from blood tests come back okay the doctor that puts your results into the system at the same time puts your repeat prescription back to 3 months. If its not a doctor that updates the system get them to pass details on to a doctor to do it, simple way of saving NHS money. Partly because of the trouble getting in touch with the surgery l have just left things as it was and had a walk every 4 weeks after ordering meds to pick them up. At the expense to the NHS that has obviously had more work, once a month not 3. l will leave that with you !!!
