I went with my mom with dementia to attend an appointment for her blood test at Greenfields. We are aware that we were running late at the 9:30am appointment, and also aware that late arrival for more than 15 min at scheduled time (from one of our previous experiences at Sunny Mead), we will need to be rescheduled. We hurried to the surgery at 9:40am, and waited at the reception by queueing up at the reception desk (because there is no self-check in at that surgery), behind another person who was talking to the receptionist. I asked my mom to go and sit down at the waiting room while I was queueing. After 5min and when they finished talking, I was able to tell the receptionist about my mom’s appointment. To my surprise, the receptionist said we were 20min late and looked at her computer to tell me the nurse has another clinic to attend so the appointment had to be rescheduled. She also said I should have stand away waiting when she was talking to “another patient” according to her. I looked at the time, it was only about 9:45am and we were obviously waiting while she also acknowledged me. I said she spent 5min to talk to another person while we were waiting, and she responded “How dare you?” Then she stood up and went to the nurse’s door (which was open and apparently no one else was inside the room) and asked if the nurse heard our conversation and what she wanted her to do. She then said the nurse also asked her to reschedule. I felt we were treated very badly by the poor attitude of the receptionist, as well as services offered by Greenfields. We made effort to travel to the surgery, we were anxious for not being late to appointment. We were not late for more than 15min from scheduled time, and was asked to reschedule the appointment. I was not sure the chat at reception was work related or the nurse was really not able to do a blood test at that time.
