Review titled Poor availability
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Robert Nash - Posted on 10 June 2024
In short it is almost impossible to get an appointment at GPS. You cannot book an appointment within the next 7 days! To get a booking you need to call the surgery at precisely 8am and not a second later, even then you are placed in a que of up to 35 people (my worst) and may not get an appointment then you have to try again the next day. And bookable appointments are generally so far in the future, whatever ailment you have, has either gone or you had to make other arrangements. It’s just not good enough. And it’s not improving. It has been like this for a number of years and seems to be getting worse.

Dear Mr Nash I am sorry to hear of your issues regarding appointments. GPS Healthcare (GPS) appreciates the time you have taken to raise your concerns with us. What is Patchs? The service will be available between Monday to Friday for a limited number of consultations. Patients submit their request via an online form. There is no need to wait in a phone queue or travel to the practice. The request will be sent to the practice, with questions and answers that specifically relate to the request placed. The information provided allows us to book the most appropriate appointment in the most appropriate time-frame. Patchs is an NHS-approved digital triage tool designed to enhance patient access. You will receive a response by 6.30pm the next day or sooner, especially where an urgent assessment may be required. I do hope I have addressed your concerns. GPS Healthcare are always listening to our patient needs and constantly improving our services. Thank you for taking the time to raise these concerns with us. Kind regards, GPS Healthcare

Review titled Really poor service
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 30 April 2024
Today I had a telephone appointment at 2.30 for a Medication Review. The phone eventually rang at 3.40 (over an hour late) & when I pointed this out, the man I spoke to just said they'd been busy this afternoon. He was curt & unapologetic. If I'd been over an hour late arriving for an appointment at the surgery, I'd have lost that appointment (& it would rightly considered very rude & disrespectful too).

Review titled No contact from GP after discharge from Solihull Hospital
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Roy Louis Stokes - Posted on 13 December 2023
I am writing this review with regard to my 86 year old blind mother who is a patient at Meadowside Family Health Centre. My mother was discharged from Solihull hospital three weeks ago having spent two months in there and also the QE in Birmingham. She currently has carers coming in to her home to support her in her recovery. I had a call from the company that supply the carers last week saying that my mother had run out of blood pressure medication. I would have expected my mother's GP to have made contact by now to check on her progress and to visit her as she is housebound, but this hasn't happened. She has tried to call the service on numerous occasions but has been put in a que for for long periods of time and eventually gave up. I tried to call yesterday and eventually got through to the receptionist, but they refused to talk to me due to GDPR and to protect my mothers confidentiality which I can understand. I am also concerned that this GP practice is not registered with CQC as I have looked on the website and was unable to locate the practice on their list. I feel that this standard of care for a blind 86 year old women with mobility issues and other health concerns is shockingly terrible and hope that some improvement will be made.

Dear Roy Thankyou for your feedback, I an a site manager for GPS Healthcare. Firstly, may I apologise for the recent experience you have had with us and the call wait times and appointment booking system. GPS Healthcare strive to ensure that the needs of patients are met, if not exceeded, in relation to the ability to see or be contacted by a Doctor, Nurse or any other clinician. We strive to ensure that there are an adequate number of appointments available to patients and generally this works well. We do listen to feedback from patients and we have recently introduced a new appointment system which will increase the number of on the day appointments as well as a shorter waiting time for appointments to become available for both face to face and online appointments, this will also include later appointment times with Doctors. We understand and empathise with patients, however appointment availability and current demand in order to suit everyone’s particular need is not always possible. General Practice across the Country face the same challenges and GPS Healthcare is not isolated in this. We endeavour to provide an excellent service and to all intents and purposes do so. In response to your queries regarding your mother unfortunately I can not disclose or discuss any details due to GDPR regulations. We thank you for your feedback and hope that your next interaction with the Practice is a more positive one. If you have any queries or questions in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact us on 0121 796 2777

Review titled Appalling inflexible unsympathetic reception service
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 October 2023
I am a senior manager and have a very unconventional job, spending many days of the month abroad or on conference calls between 0630 and 1100 with the Far East. So it is extremely difficult for me to sit on a phone for an age trying to get an appt to see my GP. I have had an abdominal complaint for over six weeks. The inflexibility, lack of empathy and intransigence of the staff at GPS Meadowside is nothing short of appalling. My wife has tried to make an appointment on my behalf whilst I've been overseas. She has tried to explain the situation but, alas, no. The reception staff demonstrate their usual intolerance and inflexibility. Let me remind you of the GPS Values: "Agile – We understand that there are times when we need to adapt our ways of working to meet the needs of the individual or group we are supporting. We learn as we go and we share that learning amongst our peers and external partners". What absolute utter rubbish!!!!!!! I've had to take a day off work and work from home just to try and get an appointment. I've been on the line over 25 minutes now and still above number 30 in the queue. I somehow doubt today will be a success. Disgusting practive behaviour and yet it openly displays a message that they are taking on new patients. They cannot manage the patients they already have on their books. This surgery needs to be closed to all new patient applications and the staff retrained to understand that not everyone's situation is the same and have the flexibility to fit into their totally inflexible system.

Dear Patient, thank you for you feedback, my name is Balvinder Devi I am the Governance and Compliance Manager and I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience casused. We are faced with unprecedented demand and we have had to look at innovative ways to meet the increasing demand. We are offering an increased amount of on the day appointments and we are not booking in advance. I understand that this can be inconvenient and we are looking at ways to ensure we can book some appointments as and when needed. We do have an option for you to complete a short form online if you cannot wait on the phone. Unfortunately we do not have an infinite amount of appointments. I would also like to reassure you that we are fully aware of our values and our staff are trained and communicated with regarding all updates and all changes with our staff. Many Thanks Balvinder Devi

Review titled Dreadful place
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Linda Lintern - Posted on 24 August 2023
My husband an asthmatic called the surgery at 8am on Tuesday as he was certain he had a chest infection. Of which he'd had many over the years, and knew he would need anti biotics and prednisone. He waited 2 hours for call back and was told the receptionist would speak to the doctor. Seconds later he was dismissed with a text message. Waited all day on the Wednesday and never had a call back. Finished up in A andE It has become almost impossible to get medical help from this surgery. Dreadful service.

Review titled Poor practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 August 2023
I am on regular medication and have repeat prescriptions in place yet every month when I order them after 2 working days they have not been processed - my account states "undetermined" so I have to phone the surgery at least twice and send an email which is unacceptable - on average it takes at least 5 working days for me to get a repeat prescription. I am always on hold for approximately 1 hour waiting to speak to someone and this is happening every month and something needs to improve. I have just called the surgery again and was met with quite a hostile woman on the end of the phone and before I had finished what I was saying - started to ask another question the lady slammed and I mean slammed as it was very loud in my ear, the phone down. I think you need to consider retraining certain reception staff on how to be professional and polite. Also your service needs to improve around repeat prescription requests and ensuring they are dealt with in a timely manner

Unfortunately we are faced with an ever increasing demand and we are working hard to ensure we have a team of clinicians that are available for patient care needs. We cannot take prescription requests over the phone or by email, I would like to direct you to use the NHS APP or drop your prescription request at any one of our sites. We usually ask that you request a prescription when you have one weeks remaining and your prescription will be ready at your nominated pharmacy. I would also like to apologise for the service you received from our staff and would like to reassure you we take such feedback seriously and I will ensure I speak to the Site Manager. Review titled Unable to book an appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 August 2023
I was told at Solihull Hospital after a diagnostic test had been completed (that my GP had requested) to book an appointment with my GP in week's time to discover my results. When I rang the surgery, I was told I could only book an appointment on the day of telephoning the practice. This is very difficult to do when I leave for work before 7:30am to travel to Birmingham Children's Hospital. I can only ring the practice from 8am, and if I was lucky enough to get an appointment on that day, I would have to leave work and travel back to the GP practice. This is presuming I can take this time off work on such short notice. I was also told that this is now national practice for all GP's since May 2023. However, I cannot find any NHS website stating this.

Review titled Query re 'flu vaccination
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by lgulliford - Posted on 19 June 2023
I require an annual 'flu vaccination and due to an allergy to formaldehyde receive the nasal vaccination. On 2 occasions I have been given contradictory advice - on the first occasion I was advised by a receptionist that formaldehyde was no longer included in the vaccine. Following that during my last asthma review I was informed that only those vaccines with formaldehyde were currently available with no option suggested. Could this be clarified please.

Dear Igulliford, thank you for your feedback, I can see there was a query in reference to the 'Flucelvax' vaccine, where the nurse queried with the pharmacist who checked the EMC guidelines where the ingredient doesn't include formaldehyde based on last year's stock. This is not to say it will be the same in the upcoming flu season and would need to be checked again. I hope this helps Many Thanks Balvinder Devi Compliance and Governance Manager
