  1. Review titled NHS Health Check

    by IP74 - Posted on 28 August 2023

I had: -weight checked -blood pressure checked Questions: - Family history of heart disease, diabetes, smoking, exercise Three minutes! No review of HRT and menopause. No review of skin problems related to HRT. No review of intestine/bowel problems from one year ago. No cholesterol or blood sugar tests. No check for breast cancer. No breathing tests, heart monitoring, liver or kidney function tests. What was the point of loosing two hours pay and paying for two bus journeys? A waste of everyone’s time and money.

Dear Service User, I'm sorry that you felt that the Over 40 NHS health Check was a waste of time. When the practice sends out the invites by text message we also attach a link so patients can read what the the health check involves, if this information was unavailable to you below is what it entails "The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your overall health. It can tell you whether you're at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as: heart disease diabetes kidney disease stroke During the check-up you'll also discuss how to reduce your risk of these conditions and dementia. If you're over 65, you will also be told the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for. Who is the NHS Health Check for? The check is for people who are aged 40 to 74 who **do not** have any of the following pre-existing conditions: heart disease chronic kidney disease diabetes high blood pressure (hypertension) atrial fibrillation transient ischaemic attack inherited high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia) heart failure peripheral arterial disease stroke currently being prescribed statins to lower cholesterol previous checks have found that you have a 20% or higher risk of getting cardiovascular disease over the next 10 years You should have regular check-ups if you have one of these conditions. Your care team will be able to give you more information about this. How will the NHS Health Check help me? You will have your individual cardiovascular risk (risk of getting conditions related to the heart or circulation) calculated and explained to you. While the cardiovascular risk levels vary from person to person, everyone is at risk of developing heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and some types of dementia. At your NHS Health Check you will be given advice on how to prevent them. Your NHS Health Check can detect potential health problems before they do real damage. **Do NHS Health Checks work?** The health conditions picked up by the NHS Health Check are, when added together, the biggest cause of preventable deaths in the UK, with around 7 million people affected by them. In its first 5 years, the NHS Health Check is estimated to have prevented 2,500 heart attacks or strokes. This is the result of people receiving treatment after their Health Check. The latest research suggests that: For every 30 to 40 people having an NHS Health Check, 1 Person is diagnosed with high blood pressure For every 80 to 200 people having a Health Check, 1 person is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. For every 6 to 10 people having an NHS Health Check, 1 person is identified as being at high risk of cardiovascular disease. " If you would like to discuss any of the issue that you stated in your review which was not part of the NHS Health Check please make an appointment with the GPs at the practice who will be happy to discuss any concerns you have. The health care assistant is not clinician trained in the areas that you have highlighted so would be unable to provide any support. I hope this explains more clearly NHS Health Check and what to expect.

  4. Review titled Outreach appointment

    by limadr49 - Posted on 13 February 2023

I called to book an appointment. I was on hold for a long time. I didn't know where the appointment was going to be held as it was not possible to be seen at the practice, but the receptionist checked the area for me. I was disappointed that I wouldn't be seen at the practice, but grateful that there were options so I wouldn't need to wait as long.

Dear Service User, Sorry you were held in the phone queuing system for a long while. Sometime the practice received a high volume of calls. The practice reception team does it very best to answer calls a promptly as possible. Some of the additional services are held at other practices and I can understand that this could be disappointing but this does give patients an alternative appointment options. I hope the next time you call your experience will be different. Thank you
