Review titled No receptionist
by Anonymous - Posted on 30 July 2024
Attended for my bloods taking and when entering the ferrybridge practise I noticed no receptionist any more, lots of signs advising to register on the computer which I don’t mind but noticed if you have any requests or queries you have to use phone which if required isn’t very private, I couldn’t help thinking whilst I was waiting in the empty reception what would happen if someone came in knowing it isn’t manned any more who were there to ransack or attack? Also what if someone collapsed?? They couldn’t get up and use the phone could they (and that’s if someone answered) when I mentioned this to the person on my appointment I was told they have given the same concerns (apparently it’s all due to not enough staff). It is far from an ideal situation guys…not everyone can cope with everything going digital, I have to say I have always found the staff very friendly and I applaud the hard work they all do. The ones making these decisions aught to appreciate the hard work the staff do and try not to make it harder for their patients.

Review titled Nice to talk.
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Brian Lilley - Posted on 14 June 2024
Having battled through the online system that you can’t name in a review, I eventually got an appointment, but unfortunately it was not convenient, so I rang the surgery and spoke to someone who I can’t name! Who was excellent in dealing with my questions and sorting out another appointment for same day as my wife had one. All sorted in 4 mins. Very pleasant and helpful. How can I praise someone’s performance when you don’t allow names?

Review titled Failing Medical centre
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Antony clewlow - Posted on 18 June 2024
All I can say is this is a very anti patient doctors surgery. Getting a repeat prescription is a nightmare. I had to wait almost 2 weeks for my medication to be approved and delivered. My yearly review was due in May tried following a link sent to me at the start of June, no appointment's upto August! Trying to go into the surgery and speaking to someone turns into a hostile experience due to the attitude of some of the desk staff. Terrible service, used to be brilliant.

Review titled Not great
Rated 2 stars out of 5

When my kids have been ill I have been seen with them the same day most of the time although sometimes having to travel quite far. But for myself the service has been rubbish I was invited via letter to have a smear and I booked an appointment which has now been cancelled three times due to staff sickness apparently... So getting a smear has taken over three months and counting. I have had grade 3 in the past so am quite concerned with the poor service.

Review titled Terrible Service

My husband had symptoms of a water infection he did a water sample thinking they could test it as 2 minute procedure but was told we don't have the capacity to deal with that. Ended up at Pontefract then Wakefield out of hours! All they needed to do was put the testing stick in the sample and issue antibiotics. You can't see a doctor at the surgery anymore so it isn't fit for purpose. My 11 year old keeps getting tonsillitis so we have been told to book a routine appointment, but hardly any available and ones they have are in Castleford and other locations, we are registered at Ferrybridge so expect to be able to see a doctor at Ferrybridge or whats the point! Either they don't actually have any doctors working here or something is seriously wrong with the appointment system.waste of time telling people to make an appointment then you can't get one. Everyone seems to end up at the out of hours department's at local hospitals where there are massive queues. Surely local doctors should be seeing patients with water infections, eye infections etc not just telling them to go to hospitals it really is terrible.

Review titled Abysmal GP Practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Unhappy Chappy - Posted on 12 March 2024
Following contact with this practice, it is apparent that this experiment in the provision of care has failed. The surgeries are spread between Byram, Ferrybridge, Castleford, Methley and Normanton. This is no good for anyone reliant on public transport. There is a 9.5 mile radius minimum, between the practices branches and the chances of any one them communicating with each other is virtually nil. Trying to get an appointment is also virtually impossible, and if you do get one it will be in an adjacent town, as the local surgery will be shut. There is no wonder the accident and emergency services are over flowing, as primary care is neither patient centered nor fit for purpose. Our 92 year old, terminally ill mother was made to visit the surgery, whereupon she was admitted to hospital 2 days later with pneumonia, despite being on the gold team palliative care team and should have had a home visit. In summary the practice appears to be only of use to people who are fit and well and for the convenience of the doctors and staff, who seem to make it as difficult as they can for those most in need of their care.

Dear Sir, Please be assured that we take your feedback seriously and are committed to addressing the issues you have raised. We are sincerely sorry that your ill mother had the need to be admitted to hospital and if you would like to send in further detail to wyicb-wak.feedback.hcf@nhs.net we will be able to investigate and give a more detailed response. Many thanks Feedback Team To improve our appointment system and enhance accessibility for all patients, we have implemented the following measures: 1. Clinical assessment: All patient requests for appointments are now completed through a digital form (PATCHS). This enables all request to be clinically assessed, ensuring that you get to see the right person first time. 2. Appointment Availability: We have increased the number of pre bookbale available appointments by reallocating resources and adjusting our scheduling protocols to better accommodate patient needs. 3. Same-Day Appointments: We continue to ensure that patients with urgent medical concerns can be seen by one of our clinicians on the day or by the other extended services available as deemed appropriate, such as pharmacy, 111 or UTC. 4. Care Navigators, previously known as Reception and Call Handler: We also continue to look to invest in our care navigation team in terms of numbers and training, helping to continually reduce call wait times. We hope that these measures will lead to improvements in our appointment system and reduce waiting times for our patients.
