  1. Review titled Don't bother using this surgery

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by S Williams - Posted on 23 May 2024

In last few month's the surgery has become a liability to patients health and not what you expect from your gp practice. , can't get a appointment for weeks , receptionist telling you the patch system is working when you have it on your phone saying fully booked up with in 9 minutes of going live and to top it off there systems crashed leaving my doctor blind to my patients history and then doctors telling you there isn't much they can do.

Dear Patient We are sorry to hear that you are having issues getting an appointment using Patchs if you would like to discuss this further please contact the surgery. Routine appointments are also available to book online. With regards to the system crashes we have been having recently, this unfortunately is out of our hands as it is the main IT server that has been crashing not just the surgery computers, these issues have been town wide and are been dealt with urgently. Should you wish to discuss any of this further please do not hesitate to contact the Surgery and ask to speak to Nicki or Laura (Practice Manager/Deputy Manager) on 01925 847007/01925 847008. 2. Review titled worse practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have got rash on my neck and chest since Sunday and I knew it would be nightmare to get an appointment. I went to pharmacy and they gave me cream andantihistamine but it got worse so I tried to fill on line form and I got this message: 'Fearnhead Cross medical centre is currently unavailable for requests on paches. so I called them after 25 minutes waiting in queue I was told to call 111 or go to Widnes or Leigh. Recently I received a text that appointment system is changing, so no one can get an appointment without filling in an online consultation. This is a ridiculous change, it is effectively blocking access to a GP. we have to get up 6 in the morning and rush to our lap top to be able only fill the form before they reach their limit, then the surgery will decide to see us or not. I want to know with this new changes what is your on line limit?

Dear Patient - we are sorry you feel that we did not help you with your recent problem. Presently we have little patches capacity and therefore this service fills quickly. With the new method our patches capacity will significantly increase (at least tripling the number). This is not the only method of access, patient's can still book appointments online, and if any patient is struggling to complete a form, a receptionist will help or complete the form for the patient. We are hoping that the new system will free up the phones so that it is a lot easier to get through to us via this method for patients with queries. It will be a Clinician (ie GP or Advanced Clinical Practioner) that will be triaging the forms and allocating the appropriate action. Should you wish to discuss this further or require more information, please do not hesitate to contact the Surgery and ask for the Practice Manager.

  3. Review titled Change to GP appointment system

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 November 2023

Received a text that appointment system is changing, so no one can get an appointment without filling in an online consultation. This is a ridiculous change, it is effectively blocking access to a GP. I have 3 elderly relatives that rely on me for health needs, of whom are in poor health. None of whom are of digital minded generation. I will not be filling in patches as it is not a process that I find helpful for me or any family member. Where does that leave me and family? Without any access. As someone who also has significant mental health myself, this change is a process that effectively blocks access. I am pretty sure it blocks access for a number of people with severe mental health issues and places additional stress on informal carers who are expected to complete patches for those vulnerable. It really is one of the worst ideas the surgery has had. Care from the surgery has declined over last 12 months and this change will see a further decline in service. Well done for excluding those who are vulnerable and have health needs. So much for an inclusive service. Ringing up so surgery can assist is not an option for some people with issues. So taking away online booking is creating an additional barrier for people. Patches 30 minutes is not enough to complete it, well it isn't for me who has processing issues and things take alot longer. This new system is serverly flawed and the worst idea I've heard from the surgery in being a patient my whole life. I think this may be changing soon for me and my family to a surgery that is inclusive and doesn't operate such a ridiculous system. Patches itself is worse than econsult was, if had a half decent online system but whole thing leaves a lot to be desired. You say want improve access but you are effectively blocking and excluding those who don't want or can't use patches. So you just leave those people and end up with more long term chronic issues. This surgery is changing for the worse, not for patient care that's for sure. You offer no alternatives, how is that fair healthcare?

Dear Annoymous, firstly I would like to apologise for the time it has taken me to respond. Unfortunately there have been problems with the website. With regards to patches, we will ensure that any elderly or vulnerable person who is unable to complete the online form receive the help they require to do so. We are not taking away online booking, these appointments will still be available. We are changing the way we are using patches, as have many surgeries in the area, to help improve our service to patients and to cut down on the waiting times. If you would like to discuss this in more detail along with the options available to patients for contacting the surgery, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01925 847000

  5. Review titled Fantastic receptionist

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The Scottish girl on reception was absolutely fantastic. I went in to ask about my daughters scan results as I didn’t understand them and she went over and above in making sure I understood, even going in to ask the doctor. She is an asset to the surgery.

  6. Review titled Courtesy costs nothing.

Rated 1 star out of 5

Attended surgery for consultation and when leaving attempted to take a face mask to replace my damaged one. Clerk immediately shouted "masks are for patients only and you already have one. We do not have an endless supply you know". Why the nasty tone, is it part of the training? Abuse rule should cut both ways.

I already tried consultant but it wouldn't let me do it either. it is ridiculous. don't know why we pay national insurance when we don't get the service. all they do blame Covid. I call again and so far waiting for 10 minutes . I am in position 2 let's see for second time they cut me off.

Thank you for your response. We are sorry that you are having difficulties getting through to the Surgery. We are at present, unfortunately, working on a minimum in reception due to some staffing issues, these are being dealt with as quickly as possible, but this is having a knock-on effect on our telephone response times. We are also looking and working hard to rectify this as quickly as possible. If you would like to discuss this further please contact the Surgery and ask to speak to the Practice Manager, where with further information from you, we will be able to look directly at your case. Kind regards Fearnhead Cross Medical Centre.
