Review titled Great Experience at Practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ellie Jean Roberts - Posted on 05 July 2024
It’s a long positive story. I have only recently moved to the area and registered to Fairfield back in January this year. I knew I was due for a smear test and mentioned it during my GP appointment. My GP was very encouraging and said that the nurse at the surgery was very good with people who are nervous about them. I bit the bullet and booked it in and was anxious to a point that when the day came I thought about turning the car around and cancelling. I sat in the waiting room shaking and thought I’d pass out and the bleep of the screen with my name on it indicated that the time had come. As I got into the room, I announced that I was extremely scared and the nurse and the lady with her immediately made me feel at ease. They were supportive, caring and kind throughout. Consideration for dignity was spot on and I cannot thank them enough for putting me at ease. Yes the smear test is uncomfortable, it’s very intimate and not something that is spoken about enough when you are growing up. I cannot thank the nurse and the medical assistant enough for making me feel so at ease.

Thank-you very much for sharing your recent positive experience – we do appreciate it. We’re all aware of how uncomfortable and worrying smear tests can be – so it’s great to hear that the team were able to help and support you as you needed. The nurse that you saw is thrilled with your feedback. She and we know that not everyone has the time to take the trouble to feed-back positive experiences so thank-you. We have also shared your comments with the whole team as great feedback like this is always very welcome! Thank-you again. Audrey Lynas Practice manager

Review titled Exceptional service

My daughter had run out of meds (totally our fault), next review appt was in 2 weeks. I phoned and we went into the surgery to get her blood pressure done, whilst there the GP said to just give her the reading, height, weight and answer some Q’s. Did this and we walked out 20 mins later with a prescription. Amazing!!

Review titled Emergency prescriptions at weekends
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Graham Alsop - Posted on 03 June 2023
I am totally frustrated that I cannot get an emergency prescription for an item that is not on my regular repeat prescriptions at weekends. Boots Bookham cannot supply another issue of this one-off prescription because it is not part of my repeat prescription list. They recommended I try 111 for Emergency Prescriptions but again that would only apply to my recorded repeat prescriptions. I had expected the pharmacist could have issued 3 days of medication to bridge until my online request to the surgery placed on a Saturday could be processed. In the meantime I am left in limbo with no access to the Prochlorperazine I require for ongoing labyrithitis symptoms. So much for passing more responsibility to pharmacies to ease the load on GPs.

I am sorry to hear that you have had problems obtaining a prescription over the weekend. I have tried to look into what 'out of hours services' are in our area to see what other options might be available if this type of situation ever happens again. As you rightly say – most of the out of hours processes in place relate to repeat medication only. Acute prescriptions are for items which are required to alleviate an acute problem. This means that the majority of acute prescriptions are issued during surgery consultations and are only for a short term. Depending on the medication and the reasons for prescribing it - GPs often need to be able to review the reasons why somebody might need a further acute prescription. Or they may even need to discuss the request with the patient before issuing a further prescription. This means that to obtain an acute prescription over week-end – you would need to attend a GP out of hours service or an urgent care service (such as a walk-in centre): - GP out of hours service: in our area – if one of our patients is unwell when we are closed, they can phone 01372 232001 from 18:30 to 20:00 on weekdays or from 09:00 to 17:00 on Saturday to see if a GP out of hours appointment might be available (the appointments are usually at Leatherhead Hospital). - Urgent care: can be obtained at: o Epsom Hospital – 5.6 miles from our practice (01372 735735), Dorking Road, Epsom, KT18 7EG (open 24 hrs – over 16 years only) o Woking Walk-In Centre – 8.2 miles from our practice (01483 846209), Woking Community Hospital, Heathside Road, Woking, GU22 7HS (open 8am to 8pm – over 3 years only) I’m afraid that that the only other alternative is probably to try to remember to contact the practice before your medication runs out if you think you may possibly need a further prescription (not always practical or possible we know). I’m sorry that you had problems though and I hope the above information might help if you are ever in a similar situation. Audrey Lynas Manager

My first recent appointment with a practice nurse was arranged promptly. My concerns were listened to and the nurse's response was friendly, informative and helpful. A follow-up appointment was made and I left feeling very satisfied.

I am so very grateful to the surgery staff and GPs who saw me recently. I got an appointment within hours of calling, the doctor listened and was able to put my mind at rest, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. I felt completely looked after and can't thank them enough.

I received an appointment within an hour of phoning with no problem. The receptionist was professional but friendly. The surgery was clean, calm and well organised. The doctor was friendly, professional, caring and clear in his advice and his medication prescribing. I could not have asked for a better experience.

I saw the doctor on Monday. I was given an urgent referral. On Tuesday the appointment for that referral came through. I will be seen by the specialist clinic within one week of my first appointment with the GP.

Review titled No appointments
Rated 1 star out of 5

I rang at 8 this morning to get an appointment today, i was 9th in queue, I explained I have a really painful ear infection which I’ve had for 3 dads now. But no appointment's with anybody only drive to a hub at 6.45 in the evening I Need these medication today thus is very bad service and where all these appointments gone already this system isn’t good at all. I’m so upset as this pain is so bad I can’t sleep and have been taking pain killers and putting hot flannels on it… This is too far to drive thus us why I have a doctors in Bookham close by. No appointments tomorrow either…. Very odd system and I hardly ever go to the doctors. I’m very upset with this situation I suppose the answer is to go to A&E…

I am sorry you are unhappy with the same day GP appointment that was arranged for you when you called. As you may be aware – there is a huge demand for both GP appointments and urgent care at the moment. To try to ensure patient safety – all GP practices in our area are working together in order to provide additional appointments in local NHS facilities. All local GP practices – therefore – regularly offer appointments at these local places – particularly if somebody needs a same day appointment. Having listened to your telephone call – this is what happened to you. You were offered a same day GP appointment at Leatherhead Hospital (which is only a few minutes drive from the practice). You were advised that an appointment was possible at the practice but that this would involve a wait – so you chose to have the same day appointment at Leatherhead Hospital. You were also advised which pharmacists were open late so that you could obtain medication – if your appointment resulted in a prescription being given to you. I am sorry that you are upset with this situation – but you were given a same day GP appointment within a reasonable distance from the practice. We are very happy to discuss this further if you would find that useful. Please just call the practice on 01372 455450 and ask to speak with me. Audrey Lynas (manager)
