  1. Review titled Beyond Expectation

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 September 2024

I was worried about an issue I should have dealt with earlier, just before I went on an extended holiday. I asked for an appointment the following day expecting to be told no. I was offered one the same day and one of the GPs, who wasn't actually seeing patients that day, saw me. What can I say? Brilliant! There is a lot discussion about getting GP appts these days but I can only say Court Thorne went beyond my expectation. I'm grateful . Thank you.

We’re delighted to hear that we were able to accommodate you and that your experience at Court Thorn exceeded your expectations. Our goal is always to provide the best possible care, and we're glad that we could offer you an appointment on such short notice. It’s heartening to know that our team’s efforts, particularly the GP who went above and beyond, made a positive difference during your visit. Your kind words mean a great deal to us and will certainly be passed on to the team. Thank you again for your appreciation, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything further in the future. Best wishes Rachael Somerville Business Manager

  2. Review titled Terrible patient empathy & care

Rated 1 star out of 5

I tried to get an appointment with my Gp last month to be told appointments could be 2-3 weeks. I wasn’t offered any alternative to just waiting 3 weeks and the call abruptly ended she was very short, abrupt, matter of fact and totally in empathetic this has been my previous experience of (s) admin too. Anyway it was too late & suffered a burst ear drum that evening - this is not the first time court Thorn has turned me away. I once called worried about a lump in my breast to be abruptly told to put a ticket in online (I was actually just wanting some advice) a previous Infection I was refused antibiotics because I’d had a procedure privately. The surgery is outdated and out of times - they need to offer extended opening times they clearly can’t cope with the patients they have. The surgery is also extremely un private you can listen to every call the admin are making on the front desk and there is no privacy when discussing your medical queries in the practice. I know the job can be hard but if your going to work in a Gp practice at least smile and show you care.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear about your negative experiences at our practice and deeply regret any distress caused by our service. Patient care and empathy are at the core of our values, and it is disheartening to learn that we have fallen short in these areas. Regarding the wait times for appointments, we understand how frustrating it can be to wait for medical attention. We are currently reviewing our appointment scheduling process to improve accessibility and reduce wait times. In urgent cases, we do have same-day appointments and alternatives like telephone consultations, and we are sorry if these options were not communicated effectively to you. We apologise for any abruptness or lack of empathy you experienced from our staff. We will be conducting further training to ensure all team members provide compassionate and respectful care to all patients. Your feedback about the privacy of calls and conversations at the front desk is also concerning. While we are limited by the space constraints of our current building, we strive to maintain patient confidentiality at all times. We can offer a private room the majority of the time if needed, and we encourage patients to request this option if they have any concerns about privacy. We appreciate your comments about the need for extended opening hours. We are actively exploring ways to offer more flexible appointment times and are looking at providing some limited extended hours in the future to better accommodate our patients' needs. Thank you again for bringing these issues to our attention. We are committed to improving our services and providing the best possible care to our patients. If you have any further concerns or would like to discuss this matter in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. Court Thorn Surgery

Went for a booked appointment to be told I didn't have one, reception staff not very sincere, luckily a lovely nurse agreed to see me as I had proof of appointment.

  4. Review titled Not to sure

Rated 2 stars out of 5

After suffering neck pain that ratiated through my right shoulder and arm, I phoned the surgery to request a telephone appointment with a GP. I was told by the receptionist to go to A and E to get an xray, because the Docter could not diagnosis without one. As I had been off work for more than a week I requested a fit note for my employer, again, I was told to go to A and E. 2 years ago when I had a trapped sciatic nerve there was no mention of of attending A and E and the care and pain relief I received was very good. Feel let down when all I wanted was advice from a GP and not admin.

  5. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

A very lovely and friendly GP, but after a year of very positive and enjoyable cooperation, we were refused to be served here. It happened after we had announced our move to Carlisle, just 7 miles away from Court Thorn Surgery. How disappointing and frustrating! Can't understand such an outcome... we are really sorry

Thank you for your positive feedback. The decision to ask you to register with another practice has not been taken lightly and we understand this may be unsettling for you. We deem this action necessary for the practice to continue delivering the care and service required for those within our area. We hope this answers the reason why you have been asked to register with an alternative practice where you reside within the practice area, thank you.

My daughter came home from school complaining of sore throat and rash on her chest, I rang the doctors concerned. Court Thorn had me in within 30 mins to check her. Knowing I have access to amazing care for my family is so reassuring. We are very grateful to all the Court Thorn team.
