Review titled Test Results
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Susan Anns - Posted on 21 October 2024
I spoke to a kind receptionist today re my test results. They were back but she was unable to decipher as not a clinician and I now have to wait a month to speak to a GP about them. They have not been loaded to the NHS app so cannot try and decipher myself. Worrying for any patient having to wait so long..

From sample taken on the 15.08.24 to the results given 27.08.24, although negative, could have been a very painful and embarrassing situation

Had a telephone appointment with Dr O this morning. He listed to my concerns and was very understanding and took time to really understand my issues. This is not my regular Dr, but it seems all the Dr here take the time and care needed with their patients. Thank you

Review titled Great Experience - All very Friendly
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Debbie - Posted on 27 August 2024
I had a face to face appointment with Dr B at 9.30 today. He was very thorough, and very welcoming and really listened. He referred me for X-rays, and also a physio appointment. I made the physio appointment at reception before I left, the receptionist was also friendly and helpful. I went straight to W est Berks Hospital and had xrays completed, home by 11.00am. Great experience all round, very smooth, friendly and efficient. Thank you all

Review titled Unsatisfactory Visit
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Ian Arthur Bannister - Posted on 23 May 2023
i picked up a blood pressure machine on the 22nd may 2023 i attempted to use it the following day .i found that the cuff would not stick & presumed that it was fed the wrong way & so reversed it so that the Velcro would stick together & also the attachment to the lead would not remain in place in the machine.i returned to the surgery today 23rd may I asked the receptionist if the cuff was the right way round but she said that she had no idea & that she would ask a nurse.I was given a replacement as apparently there was a piece missing the receptionist made no attempt at an apology for the faulty equipment & my need to make a special journey to return it & also when I asked if I could ask a nurse if the cuff was ok she said”no it will be right”.I thought that my visit could of been dealt with in a more pleasant manner.

We had a problem which needed some assistance with complex documentation from various staff members of the Burdwood surgery. As always they were very helpful, and their work resulted in a successful conclusion to our problem. I would recommend this surgery to all.

From the receptionist to the doctors, always professional, kind, helpful and accommodating. The doctors I have seen have been amazing, you never feel rushed and always feel listened to, they really do put their patients first, the reception team are always willing to go above and beyond to help you. Honesty just an all round great practice!

Review titled Gold Standard GP practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Victoria Graham - Posted on 09 December 2022
I am perplexed by the negative reviews because as far as I am concerned, the Burdwood Surgery offers a gold standard of patient care and accessibility. I am no great fan of the NHS as an institution by any stretch of the imagination, having been let down by various specialists time and time again. However, the one constant on which I can rely is this GP practice. My own GP genuinely listens to me when I am discussing my complicated medical history and he has been so helpful in obtaining referrals, chasing up delayed hospital care and ensuring that I have the medication I need. I have never had an issue in obtaining a face-to-face appointment when it is needed. The staff at the front desk are genuinely kind and helpful (which was a shock to me when I first joined the practice 10 years ago!). At my previous practice, I was used to the stereotypical gargoyles that would do everything possible to prevent access to GP care. The ladies at Burdwood could not be further from that and they always do everything possible to assist me. In fact, I needed help today as I have developed an infection at an old fistula site. When I contacted my colorectal surgery team at John Radcliffe hospital to ask for help, I found out that it has discharged me from my ongoing care without telling me or my GP (despite the fact that it did not see me during COVID). I rang up Burdwood today, explained my dilemma and my GP saw me in person within a matter of hours. As well as examining me and issuing antibiotics, my GP is going to contact JR and make sure that I am re-referred to the colorectal clinic. Therefore, when I read comments that suggest that vulnerable patients will not been seen urgently, I have to state that my experience is vastly different (not just today, but on several other occasions over the years as well). The prescription team are also incredible. It is not the first time that I have lost track of my medication and needed to make an urgent request because of my poor time-keeping (with my own poor health and an unwell mother, I am prone to lose track of the days). However, it has always been extremely understanding and I have never been without my medication, no matter how fine I have cut my deadline! Post-pandemic, we are living in a very different world. Everybody seems to be less understanding and more demanding and I know that some of the staff must feel so demoralised at times. However, I am very, very grateful for the service I've received at Burdwood over the last 10 years and I thank all of the marvellous staff at the practice.
