I received an SMS message from Blackthorn Health Centre to book a health check. The SMS message coincided with NHS ads about health checks for males in Hampshire (cannot believe this is a coincidence!) When I called to book an appointment, I was told 'management' had decided to stop appointments, so there were none available. I mentioned that the NHS ads mentioned that heath checks should be offered every 5 years from age 45. I have been with this surgery since 2004 (aged43) and have yet to have a health check - therefore not assesed / checked at 45, 50, 55 or 60. As well as the lack of appointments, I also dislike the negative and overly long telephone message. The message seems geared to not providing services and is un-friendly in its content and delivery. A poor customer experience in my opinion. Perhaps 'management' need reminding that the service is funded by clients taxes and is not 'free' and therefore in their gift to provide services as and when they like. I accept the pressure the NHS is under, however this practise could at least soften its telephone messaging and at least try to give a better impression of providing a community health service.

NHS Health Checks are an additional service that is offered through GP Practices, such as Blackthorn Health Centre. They are also available at other locations, such as local pharmacies. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to cancel a number of these appointments and suspend any future NHS Health Check appointments until at least July 2023. Please also note, that previously the NHS Health Checks invitations were managed outside of the Practice. We offer a Duty Doctor appointment for patients with an acute medical concern to discuss this acute problem. These appointments are available every day. For more prolonged, long-term issues, we have routine appointments available within a few weeks. The Practice’s telephone system, including the messages, is currently being reviewed and we thank you for your feedback on this subject. Kind regards, Blackthorn Health Centre

Called back for a review after recently moving to the area from the Midlands. Had more information given to me than I have previously had. I’m more happy with the way forward dealing with my diabetes than I was. The nurse was friendly and professional throughout and made me feel comfortable with the information she gave me.

I was seen shortly after my booked time, the Dr was extremely thorough as well as being personable. He made me feel at ease and explained what my problem was and what the options to deal with it were.

My experience, since joining this surgery last year, has been mainly ok, but the nursing staff are a cut above. Not only did they make me feel comfortable, they were kind, considerate and very understanding. Thank you.

I find it a bit suspicious that only positive reviews are posted on here when I don't know anyone who has a good thing to say apart from the friendly receptionists. I am also gobsmacked how they say they are taking on new patients when they can't cope with the ones they've got. Both my daughter and I are suffering but can't speak not see a gp for over two weeks and econsult is always shut saying try again at 8am tomorrow not helpful if you work until 3 and don't have online access at work. I definitely wouldn't recommend this surgery or the nhs.

The actual practice and staff, I cannot fault. However, the telephone answering service, leaves a lot to be desired. One can sit on the phone for upto half an hour waiting for an answer. I live just a mile away, and it is Easier to get in my car and drive down to the centre and talk to some one. The system needs up dating and modernizing. I have been known to be on the end of the phone and it just go dead. Maybe, it can't cope with the demand.

This. Really is a good practice, whether it be for wanting to speak to a GP, follow up appts, general enquiry about appts or anything. Everyone is so helpful and friendly and sympathetic. We are staying living in the area because we don't want to join another surgery as this is the best practice ever. Truly.

I attended the GP and he suggested I have a x-ray but did explain what this is looking for. Also suggested some tablets but did not tell me the name of said tablets, what they do, any side effects, how they will help my issue. Zero exploration into why I am suffering with this issue and felt fobbed off with tablets
