Review titled First Class Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Adrian Pash - Posted on 16 October 2024
I had two recent visits to the practice, in both cases I was very impressed with the service, just as I have been with all interactions with them. First was for what turned out to be sun damage on my forehead. I rang the practice at 09:00, had an appointment with one of the urgent care team at 09:40, was prescribed some cream along with a follow up appointment. I picked up the cream from my usual pharmacy on my way home and had it in my hand by 10:15. Amazing service all round. Second was for my routine covid and flu booster vaccinations. I had an appointment at 09:54, the process in the surgery to maximise throughput was excellent. There were ample staff to book you in and enough nurses doing the vaccinations that it was 5 minutes from parking the car to getting back in it again. Another case of excellent service. I highlight these last two visits, but they are a fair representation of all my dealings with the surgery. As a bonus, the new premises they have are a very pleasant environment. A massive improvement on the old three storey terraced house they used to be in

Review titled Disappointing
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I visited a dr on 17th September/24 after having an op on my sinus The hospital advised me to see a dr which I did. She took details but I never heard again. Fortunately I had an appointment with my Specialist two weeks later and have a very bad sinus infection . If she had done something perhaps I would not have this problem now. She said she would refer the matter to my specialist but he had not heard anything. Fortunately my specialist is the best and he is sorting it out. I can never see the same dr - in fact I dont even know who my dr is! I always have a job to get through to reception and an appointment but there is never more than three people waiting whenever I go to the surgery. What is going on?

I'm sorry that you feel you haven't had a good service from the surgery. We are aware that the phones are busy at peak times. We have invested in a new phone system that will call you back when you reach the front of the queue, so there is no need to wait on the line. We operate a system where patients can choose which GP they want to see rather than imposing someone on them. We would encourage you to try to see the same doctor each time, but please be aware that some GPs have longer waiting times than others. For urgent problems we also have a fantastic team of specialist nurses and a paramedic. I won't comment on the specific issues you raise about your sinus problem here, but rest assured I will feedback to the doctor that saw you. Best Wishes Dr Ropner

Review titled Car Park always full
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 February 2024
You just cannot park, partly because of their considerable amount of staff - despite what they tell you. What they do not tell you is that they sublet considerable amounts of the building to other businesses as well as "function rooms" that all attract staff and visitors who swallow up the parking spaces ! Many times l have been waiting completely alone (well past my appointment time, by the way) yet the car park was full ! Point proven.

Thanks for your anonymous feedback. We are aware that the car park is busy, and have stopped all but essential staff parking there. We encourage staff to lift share, use public transport or cycle, and have facilities to support this. The building is vastly more expensive to run than our previous facilities, and when possible we do rent out rooms to try to offset some of that cost rather than cutting back on clinical staff, but these are generally to other healthcare providers and their patients. There are now buses that stop right outside the building and we do have a covered area for securing a bike should you wish to use alternatives to the car.

Review titled Thorough diabetes review
Rated 5 stars out of 5

My appointment was with one of the nurses who was extremely thorough and gave me sound advice on general management of my condition. However I would like to say that I have been with this practice since 1986 and have never felt that the quality of care has been less than excellent. I personally feel the new building provides easy parking and more comfortable setting. Five stars to you all.

Review titled great GP
Rated 4 stars out of 5

Took my husband for health review and saw a new GP. He was so patient and thorough and hope to see him if necessary in the future. Not too happy about getting through to the surgery by telephone but the receptionists always helpful and polite. Waited over an hour to get through to reception to make an appointment!

Review titled Excellent response to lymph node worry
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by LJH - Posted on 24 July 2023
I was seen and examined by a GP within 30 minutes of speaking with a receptionist by phone; I was worried that I had a possible hernia. It was excellent to be seen so quickly. Lymph node swelling identified and I am clear on possible causes. Personable and clear speaking GP, reassured that I will be on a pathway should things worsen and that the surgery has taken my health and overall well-being seriously.

Review titled Consistently poor service
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I can’t quite believe this practice has so many positive reviews, though they are all a couple of years old now. Called up for an appointment for my daughter who looks to have an eye infection. Receptionist refuses to grant an appointment and directs us to Boots instead. I have also had issues obtaining HRT prescriptions - prescription request denied by text message from pharmacist, who is unavailable to speak to on the same day as “working from home”. Their insistence on telephone appointments pre-dates the pandemic. We basically just go private now and are lucky that for the moment we can afford to do so.

Thank you for getting in touch and we are sorry that you feel you haven't had a good experience. You may be aware that all GP surgeries are under extreme pressure, and as a result need to make full use of the other health professionals available to support us. Signposting your daughter to an optician is an example of that. Some opticians run an acute eye service that provide an excellent service and help us to manage eye problems that they are often better placed to deal with. Hopefully they were able to resolve the problem, but if not please come back to us. The surgery offers a hybrid model of appointments with both telephone and face to face options available. When dealing with prescription queries especially around HRT, the priority is patient safety. If it wasn't issued there may have been a need to review the prescription before issuing it which takes time. There are also huge supply problems with most forms of HRT, so the pharmacist is often trying to manage your expectations with what is actually available which they do by ringing around several different pharmacies. This all takes time which explains why there are often delays. Sadly this is out of our hands but we do the best we can to reduce the impact on our patients. We do our very best in extremely difficult circumstances. The NHS is really struggling at the moment, but we are proud of the service we provide. If you wish to contact the Practice Manager directly (fiona.scott28@nhs.net) we would be very happy to work with you to try to resolve these problems, but because you have posted anonymously there is little else we can do but respond on this website which sadly doesn't really help anyone.
