  1. Review titled Supporting someone in mental health crisis

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sylvie - Posted on 21 February 2024

I just want to say thank you to the Beccles team who handled two calls I made yesterday. My client was experiencing a crisis and needed medication sent to a different pharmacy outside of Beccles. The team was very patient and was able to help rapidly. Thanks again!

  2. Review titled Failure of GP Practices Own Policies

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 October 2023

The practice has spent much attention and focus on "Patches" as a method for patients for contacting the practice for non emergency appointments and enquiries. I assume this is to reduce the pressure on telephone access which for the Beccles surgery is abysmal by experience. After receiving four blunt text messages from the practice for failing to attend appointments for Flu and Covid vaccinations we are now exasperated. Each of these appointments were cancelled through the "Patches" system some two to three weeks before they were scheduled. This has been totally ignored and the practice has appeared to have failed to integrate their own internal communications. It is of note that the reason for cancelling these services was to arrange these services externally in a good and timely manner and on a single appointment. The Beccles practice would not offer both injections together nor would they schedule these for my wife and I at the same time. Our experience of the management of these routine practices is poor and difficult to access.

Dear patient, Thank you for taking the time to send your feedback. Without contact details I am unable to check the messages received on PATCHs to cancel your appointments to see what happened. If you would like me to check this for you and then I can arrange to have the DNA message removed from your record then please contact me at the surgery. Samantha - Care Coordination Manager

  4. Review titled Kindness

Rated 3 stars out of 5

After escorting an 85 year old gentleman to an appointment with a GP this morning I would like to say I believe it is time some system is provided where patients can just drop a letter or urine specimen without being rudely told that they needed to join the queue that was lengthy & slow(to be expected). This man had a walking frame, have severe walking problems, 85 years of age. I have witnessed this reaction on various occasions especially to elderly patients. Whilst I do not agree with patients rudeness, it does work both ways.

Dear patient, Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. Letters can be posted through our letter box which is checked daily. Urine samples needed to be collected by a member of the team ensure they are logged correctly for our nursing team to process. We nominate a 'queue buster' to assist with long queues during busy times. We are also investigating the opportunity for some seating along the wall near the Reception desk to enable a rest stop for patients in the queue. I will share this feedback with the Reception Team. 5. Review titled Minor Injury Clinic

Rated 1 star out of 5

When with a Minor Injury to the surgery this morning. They would not see me. Made me fill in a Patch's form. It says on the Minor Injury page that you must not fill in a patch's form. Its now 4pm and I have not been seen and have not had a appointment to see anyone.

Thank you for your comments. We are see our patients for minor injuries, if the accident has occurred in the last 48 hours. On investigation I can see we completed a patch's form on your behalf and you have now been seen. I hope this issue has been resolved

  6. Review titled Excellent service - friendly & responsive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 July 2023

Earlier in the year, I contacted this medical practice for HRT advice & help and the service was excellent & helpful. I used PATCHS which is a good system. Pharmacy on campus is great too. Most recently (last few days) when I was ill, the centre was easy to contact by phone, took on board all my details and I was seen the same day with a thorough check by the GP. Excellent service when I hear the horror stories elsewhere

  7. Review titled Very pleased

Rated 5 stars out of 5

After two consultations with GPs and a Pharmacist, and following their expert medical and lifestyle advice, I've been able to stop taking all my medicines except for precautionary statins. The nurses have been excellent taking blood samples, the results have been made available quickly and the follow-up advice has been excellent. Thank you to everyone at Beccles Medical Centre.

  8. Review titled New online system

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Sean - Posted on 05 April 2023

The new online system is useless. I went to make a request to speak to a doctor with regards to an ongoing health issue and it wouldn't let me, so tried looking for a contact bit for reception and there isn't a contact bit for it.

  9. Review titled Difficult to get an appointment, but great when I did

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by John Clements - Posted on 17 April 2023

The Practice has been great at organising/notifying routine Covid/flu etc. vaccinations; annual blood tests and review for a condition. Recently, though, I tried for the first time (at this Practice) to get a one-off appointment for something 'new' (actually a serious worsening of something that's been going on since before I moved to the Practice a couple of years ago), and it was very challenging. The new to me Patchs system was a pain at the best of times, there were no appointments available day after day after day, and then it seemed to seize up entirely, send me round and round in circles without me being able to see whether there were any appointment or request one. So I called into the surgery, anticipating further frustration, but the reception staff were very helpful (I think one person was being trained or guided by another) and pleasant. Soon afterwards I received a questionnaire via Patchs, which was all a bit alienating, and seemed to be based on a misunderstanding of what I had reported because it is not immediately apparent that there are further questions and, more particularly, questions on other topics to follow. By the end of it I could see it might have some relevance, if a bit tangential, but my previous answers might have been different if I had had an overview of the context at the outset. These types of automated systems are presumably introduced to save money, but are no substitute for two-away communication with a live person. Very shortly afterwards I received a notification that an appointment would be arranged (which is just another routine step in the automated system, but a fundamental and positive change from the perspective of the patient, who doesn't know what the system is or what is going on), and then a specific appointment - to my amazement it was on just the next working day. The doctor I saw was really pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful, and to my great surprise an unusually generous amount of time (compared to my experience in a previous GP practice) had been scheduled to explore my complex problem (though we over-ran even that, I'm afraid). I felt listened to and taken seriously (which has not always been my experience elsewhere), and was told I'd be given a further appointment and a referral for treatment/help to address my problem. So, well done and a big thank you to the receptionists and to the doctor. The online systems, though, are an infuriating and frustrating mess, but even if the problems with them are fixed they are an inappropriate approach to the basic task, in my view (though I understand the financial and other pressures that push GP practices down such a route).

Dear Mr Clements, Thank you for your thorough and honest review. We are always looking at how we can improve our systems and patient experience. We are aware that not everyone has access to the internet or are able to complete a form online. For these patients our staff are available both over the phone and in person and will submit a form on your behalf if appropriate. The questions within PATCHS are designed to gain as much information as possible so that our team of clinicians triaging the forms can signpost you to the right person first time. If you ever have an issue with our online system, please do not hesitate to contact us. We have a dedicated IT team who are able to meet and support you with any issues you may be having. I am please to hear you had a positive experience at your appointment and will be sure to share this with the team. Kind regards Maddison Deputy Operations Manager
