Review titled Staff members 'punished' me for being 10 minutes late and laughed at me
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Katherine Chandler - Posted on 29 October 2024
I was booked for an ultrasound on 29 October 2024 at 12pm. I arrived at the surgery at 12.10pm, apologised for my lateness, and explained that I was unable to reach the surgery on the phone whilst I was on my way to explain the delay. I was told to take a seat. I had accidently gone to the wrong surgery in Maidstone, and had to run to this surgery through town (a feat, having not eaten or drunk all day due to the scan). At 12.55 I apologised to the receptionist for asking, but asked if she knew how long it would be as I needed to get back to work. I explained that I didn't mean to rush them, but that I only had an hours lunch breach. The receptionist went to check with the staff member, who very loudly said 'well what time did she get here?'. I then heard laughing between the receptionist and the person, and then the receptionist walked back to her desk without engaging with me. 5 minutes later, I was then told by another member of staff that as I was ten minutes late (nearly an hour before) the doctor had gone on lunch and would not see me. I was left in tears, having waited a month for this appointment and with ongoing unexplained symptoms that needed checking. I will now have to wait for another appointment and think it is very poor that I had to wait an hour to be told that the doctor could not see me. I completely understand that I was late, but I could of been told that they would not see me when I arrived. Instead, I felt I was left to wait to 'punish' my lateness, and was only told that they would not see me when I asked roughly how much longer I would be waiting. I feel I would have been left waiting as my 'punishment' for as long as I would have sat there, had I note asked. The laughing that I heard whilst the receptionist was checking was cruel, considering I was not rude and was very apologetic when I arrived. I will not be returning to this surgery in the future and think the staff need training on how to handle these situations. If they treated a venerable person with the same attitude it could have a severe impact on that persons' mental health. Very upsetting.

Dear Katherine, I am very sorry to hear you had a negative experience while attending for a scan with an external company. I will certainly speak with our inhouse reception team and feedback how this had made you feel. I can confirm that any scans carried out at our Albion place site are with an external 3rd party company, I will add a link below for you to follow up and feedback with them directly. https://www.diagnosticworld.co.uk/patients/your-feedback If you would like to speak to me directly, please feel free to email on https://www.diagnosticworld.co.uk/patients/your-feedback and I will be in contact as soon as I can. Review titled Awful Practice

I had been experiencing painful sex for a few months when I went to see my gp. last August. I knew they were understaffed, and I had already tried a pharmacy for treatment, and even when I explained this, I was repeatedly fobbed off by Albion with excuses like 'It's just condoms' and made to feel like I was wasting their time for practicing safe sex. I attempted multiple times to get an appointment, recieved telephone appointments (some of which never came) with a practitioner and a locum, both of whom were unwilling to believe anything I said. I tried at home treatments, spent hours on Google. Felt like I was going mad because no one would take me seriously. For the Entire month of December they refused to see any new patients and essentially told me to go to a g.u.m. clinic who could only confirm what I already knew--I didn't have an s.t.i. The Only face to face I was ever granted was for testing after I specifically asked for it, and at this point, I found the first nurse who actually believed me and suggested I might have a skin thinning problem. But their tests found an infection, and they decided to plug me on antibiotics (which fixed nothing) and that skin-thinning diagnosis was never mentioned again. After eight months of trying to get them to believe me, I gave up. My mental health was in tatters, I was convinced I was wasting the doctors' time (because they rarely ever let me talk to one) and I resigned myself to just never having sex again which had a huge impact on my marriage. If a man had come in for the same problem, perhaps they would've cared? Then we moved house and signed up to a new practice. I was talked into getting an appointment by a friend. It only took the new doctor one appointment/examination to diagnose me with lichensclerosis and it was obvious parts of my skin had Fused Together. If left untreated it could've developed into a pre-cancerous version. I was so relieved that I wasn't 'making it up' I burst into tears. I must exempt that one nurse who suggested the thinning skin from the scathingness of this review, but even they could have suggested that theory to the rest of the team. Albion/College Road is truly appalling and relies on econsult and telephone appointments too much, and that's reflected in the hostility of the reception area (where the tension from angry patients yelling literally left me shaking--my sympathy to the staff). I have been left with ridiculous amounts of anxiety at the thought of going to a gp for my health. My husband was so good throughout it all, but he shouldn't have had to be. Now I can only thank God that I am finally being referred to a gynecologist (on an 11 Month waiting list that I could've been on over a year ago if they were willing to actually listen to me). They have a Facebook group for patients that is literally dedicated to people trying to swap strategies just to see their doctor. Avoid this place like the plague.
