Although I am over 60, had 2 heart attacks, serious spinal problems (had 2 operations, awaiting a 3rd) I needed an urgent appointment and was given 6 weeks later. Then less than a week before my appointment it was cancelled and a short notice appointment given that I couldn’t possibly attend. I have to give my employer 6 weeks notice for time off work. I filled in the box at the bottom of the link saying I couldn’t make the appointment and for the manager to contact me….they didn’t because they are incompetent. So now I will have to wait another 6 weeks to get time off work, in total 12 weeks for an urgent appointment! I am struggling to walk due to my stenosis and have fallen down steps twice! Totally shocking practice

I am very sorry to hear that you have been unable to get time off work to attend an appointment for what you consider to be an urgent medical matter and as a result you had to wait 6 weeks. Only being allowed to book time off 6 weeks ahead because of work commitments can be tricky. We would encourage patients with urgent medical needs to discuss further with their employer. Employers can often offer some flexibility for medical appointments, especially for urgent matters. Aire Valley Surgery does also offer weekend GP appointments and telephone consultations available to offer which may be more convenient?. It was very unfortunate that your appointment had to be cancelled/rearranged and I'm sorry to hear that happened and wish to apologise for that. Appointments would only usually be cancelled due to staff sickness, which ofcourse is frustrating but unavoidable. If this happens we do try very hard to offer an alternative appointment, which from your description was offered to you to save you having to wait any longer. I am sorry that the alternative was not suitable because you can't get out of work for another 6 weeks. Reception would have been very happy to look again at other options for other dates/times/sites, if you had called them to explain further your unique circumstances. If you do wish to discuss further or raise a complaint, please do get in touch with the practice directly and we'd be happy to investigate further what happened here. We are unable to comment on individual cases on the internet due to confidentiality, but we are happy to help. We do have urgent appointments available every day, so those who need to be seen urgently never have to wait more than a few hours. We would not ask you to wait a further 6 weeks, but as this was due to your employer rather than the practice, we encourage to you also have a conversation with them.

Take a lot of time to be seen at the surgery for my appointment. I have had to wait an hour on one occasion and 45mins on another. Makes it difficult to plan to do other every day things such as work.

I'm really sorry to hear that you had a wait once you had arrived for your appointment. The clinical staff try very hard to stick to their times, though 10 minutes or so is not uncommon if they overrun due to complex patients. I'm very sorry to hear that you have been waiting longer than this, and assume that there must have been an emergency, or perhaps you were brought in as an urgent case along with others who arrived at the same time. I'm afraid I can't investigate on here as this is anonymous so we don't know exactly what happened. If you'd like to get in touch directly, we'd be happy to look at your record and see what's happened and with which clinician so that this can be fed back. We encourage patients to let us know if they have been waiting so that we can check if someone else might be able to see them. I always find the team at yeadon surgery most helpful, never have a problem contacting the surgery ( wish someone would change the music when you are on hold ) I use the online desk too. Today I needed some information on a new med I am on, queried admin on line and several minutes later the answer popped up on my phone in a text. Always find the front desk staff so cheerful too. Would highly recommend this surgery to anyone looking for excellent service. The same comments apply to our Rawdon surgery too. Thank you "team "

Called the surgery first thing this morning to request an urgent appt. Was put straight through to the receptionist with only a minute or so wait time. My appt request was submitted and I then received a call back within 10 minutes to tell me that I could be seen in the surgery within the hour. Really pleased with how quick and efficient the service was, especially at a time when other GP surgeries have long phone queues and limited appointments available each day.

I went for my flu jab on Saturday and there was concerns re:my breathing It was suggested I take my emergency asthma medication straight away.I was given an appointment for Monday early morning....By this time I had a bad chest infection, They quickly gave me a prescription for this.....fantastic service..... professional and friendly.
