An NHS patient, I recently went for my annual Band 1 dental checkup and experienced the quickest and least thorough check-up I've ever had. The check-up did not include the least effort to scale or clean my teeth. Instead, I was asked to come back the next day for a dental hygiene treatment at an added cost of £65. This turned out to be the quickest and least thorough hygiene treatment I'd ever had, with no use of scaling picks or floss and no resulting blood, but only a electric cleaning of a few spots. It all took no more than 10 minutes. It was done by the dentist who had seen me for my check up and she recommended that I come back again for fluoride treatment at an additonal cost of £80. I declined to make an appointment and left feeling I'd been given very poor service all round and that the dentist has done agressive up-selling to pay for services that could easily of have been provided during my initial Band 1 check-up.
