Visited the Dentist as a New NHS patient, they looked at my teeth and said I needed several fillings and it wouldn't be worth doing it on the NHS because it would be a poor job (even though they would be performing it) and insisted I get the work done privately at a cost of over £1000, they also advised I clean between my teeth, but couldn't direct me in how best to do this and told me to book a private appointment with the hygienist at a further cost of £85.

Dear patient Thank you for your feedback. We do take both positive and negative feedback seriously as we see this as a good way of identifying areas we are doing well in as well as areas we can improve. As this is an anonymous review, I am unable to look into the specifics of your case but I can comment more generally. When we do our examinations, our dentists normally discuss with the patient what kind of outcomes and results they are ideally looking for. It the patient indicates they want more aesthetic results for example, we may recommend private options if we think it is worth consideration. However this would be a recommendation only, which you do not have to go ahead with. Patients are never forced into any particular treatment and as an NHS patient, you would be entitled to NHS options as well as private options and specialist options. I can also reassure you that we do not do a poor job on the NHS, we always do the best we can. If you got this impression, I can only apologise as this is far from the case.
