From arriving the service was exceptional, coffee was made and everyone was so lovely. I had my pre op on the Friday and my op on the Tuesday and I’m told my other eye will be done in June. My eye sight is much better and after being so afraid to have it done I’m so pleased I did.

First of all, very many thanks to Spa Medica in Kendal for my two cataract operations (11/01/23 & 19/02/23). The first operation couldn’t have gone more smoothly, with a brilliant, gentle and attentive surgeon and wonderful, most helpful, staff. Undoubtedly because of the surgeon’s incredible skill, my recovery proceeded like a dream, with no after-effects whatsoever and an excellent end result, evident on the very next day. Unfortunately, my second surgery was the polar opposite, although the clinic’s staff were just as wonderful. The operation itself, however, was extremely brutal, the surgeon (a different one) exerting such horrendous pressure on my eye that, had I not been aware of this person’s scalpel in my eye, I would have yelled at the top of my lungs. As it was, I just gasped and lay there in agony. After this, most traumatic, experience, my operated eye was extremely sore, with tears literally pouring out of it for many hours afterwards. And, on the night following the surgery, I thought I had lost sight in it because I couldn’t see out of it at all. What subsequently transpired was that my eye was so swollen that I couldn’t open it, and it was only when a narrow slit formed in it that I realised that I hadn’t lost vision in it after all, although it was very blurred (the latter, apparently, being expected, so I am not blaming this surgeon for this). That said, I have to reiterate that all the other staff were absolutely lovely; thank you all from the bottom of my heart! I would thus have dearly loved to award Spa Medica five stars, and it is only my horrific experience at the second surgeon’s hands that has prevented me from doing this – what a shame! I also wish to stress that I have not stated my intention to make a formal complaint in relation to my second operation, nor have I submitted such a complaint; I merely wish to advise other patients to ask their surgeon about the best way to signal their discomfort if they perceive the pressure exerted on the eye as excessive.

I've just had my final sign off from the optician following my 2nd cataract operation and wanted to thank all the staff at Spamedic in Kendal - from the meeter/greeter on the door to all the clinical staff, admin and cleaners. I was shown nothing but respect and kindness throughout both procedures. I felt very anxious approaching my lst operation but everyone was so reassuring and it was a very positive experience. I was thrilled with the improvement in my sight just 24 hours after having had the operation. I had my 2nd operation 6 weeks later and although the team were different I still received the same level of kindness and care. Thank you

Excellent care throughout assessment, and 2 subsequent cataract operations. Friendly, professional, reassuring, clearly explained process. Friendly surgeon, painless procedure made as stress free as possible.

I attended Kendal SpaMedica from the initial contact by phone , to the face to face assessments and the day of cataract surgery I found the process reassuring and could not have been treated better The staff are extremely professional, kind and caring from office staff/ telephone contacts to the nurses they were all brilliant and made me feel at ease. The consultant took time to explain procedure and answered my questions fully. The surgery was as explained and I felt I was in good hands although I was nervous . I was given all the information I required afterwards by the nurse , drops , booklets with all the information and contact numbers if required 2 weeks post surgery I am delighted with the improvements to my vision and have no fears at all to have the second eye surgery in the near future It was a very professional well organised team that cared for me thank you

Right eye cataract treated then, later, left eye also. Cannot fault SpaMedica. Very efficient, very hospitable and very competent. Have been amazed at how much better my vision is. Thank you.

My first experience late last year was excellent throughout, painless and very caring and friendly staff, unfortunately my second visit was not. I waited approx 1 hour after first drops were put in, this seemed a long time as I was the first patient, it was also quite a painful procedure which the surgeon was aware of but carried on.

Reception and booking in with a smile and welcome coffee and biscuit, what more could you ask for! From Reception to Discharge each stage was friendly and expertly dealt with. If you have the option for treatment hospital, go to SpaMedica, the very best.
