  1. Review titled Disappointing Opening Times

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Rob - Posted on 25 May 2023

I was advised to go down to the Urgent Treatment Centre by my gp practice as there was no gp cover available today - a Thursday. the earliest urgent gp appointment is at 4pm on Tuesday - 5 days time (bank holiday weekend). I arrived at the Treatment Centre at 7.30pm to be told that it closed at 7pm. The very large sign on the outside of the building clearly displays the opening time as 7am - 9pm. I was advised to phone 111 as there was a 9 hour wait at the qmc. 111 call complete and told gp would phone back within 2 hours. I explained that I would drive home and wait. gp phone 3 time in a minute whilst I was driving and closed the case. I arrived home and called 111 again. No way simple way to re-refer, I had to spend another 10 minutes going through the same questions as I had done 30 mins earlier. I am now waiting to see if the ooh gp calls. Lessons to learn: The timings of the Urgent Care Centre need re-publishing to all Primary Health providers; the signage on the Urgent Treatment Centre needs to be corrected; the 111 phone system needs to be amended to be able to make additional specific e.g. I will be driving the patient home for the next 30 mins; I'm sorry I missed the call I was driving, please ask the ooh gp to call back or at least have a button for re-referral. I am a strong supporter for the nhs and have a clinical emergency care (Trauma) background but cannot help feeling a little let down and disappointed at the moment. Please also note that this comments system does not allow for abbreviations to be capitalised i.e. gp, qmc and nhs.

Many thanks for providing feedback on your recent visit to Nottingham's Urgent Treatment Centre. Your feedback was forwarded to the Head of Service, and the following response received:- The change to opening times at the UTC is a temporary measure, unfortunately, the signage at the front of the building cant be changed until a decision has been made about the permanent times of the UTC The NHS website used to submit the feedback contains the current opening hours Overview - Nottingham NHS Urgent Care Centre - NHS (www.nhs.uk) The citycare website has the current opening hours Urgent Treatment Centre :: Nottingham City Care The current times are listed on Google NHS 111 has the correct times for the UTC And all practices were made aware of the current opening hours, we apologise if this patient was given the incorrect information from her GP practice in regards to our current opening times. The other points raised do not relate to the UTC so I am unable to comment on these Thanks again for your feedback, and we hope you find the response from the Head of Service helpful. With best wishes, Customer Care Team, Nottingham CityCare

The staff were fantastic during my visit, from the security, receptionist to the medical staff everyone was welcoming and you could feel a high morale. The staff were great tending to me and apologised to any time spent waiting, they were quick to chase results and get me sorted. Thank you!

  4. Review titled Great service under pressure

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Although the staff were under considerable pressure with a full waiting room, they were all unfailingly courteous. I was triaged quickly, and saw someone within the stated time, which was clear at the beginning. I vould have waited the same length of time on the phone to get through to my doctor, and still not been seen. I would like to thank everyone and recognise that despite underfunding the NHS is doing the absolute best it can given the money it has to work with.

The staff were phenomenal. We did not have to wait long to be seen to. The staff were competent, friendly and very professional. they explained everything and answered all our questions. They listened and proposed sensible solutions. We were very impressed as the first time we ever, and hopefully the last, used this service. Thank you NHS team at the Nottingham walk in centre

  10. Review titled Not fit for purpose

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 September 2022

Upon having serious back pain by pulling it at work and having difficulty walking I tooka taxi there at 7pm only to be told that I wouldn't be seen despite the fact it's open till 9 so call 111 and to go to NEMS on station street. Went to station street and called 111 only to be told that they couldn't make an appointment and to go home and wait for a clinician to call me back. All this time I was in a lot of pain and was left to try and stagger to catch a bus home. There's all this talk about choosing the right services that fit your symptoms so that there's no added pressure on services yet people in my situation would have no choice but to go to a and e which would cause further strain on the system. The out of hours service is frankly not fit for purpose.
